blue jean purse

I am making a blue jean purse and would like to make the bag deeper by cutting below the crotch line. Can anyone tell me how to make the fabric lie flat when you cut several inches below the crotch line?

I think you would need to piece in a small triangle of denim to make it lie flat, arkflower. Cut it open at the seam lines and pull it so it's flat, lay it over some scrap of denim and sew it down. It ought to look and work fine.
