Using Magnetic Paint?

Posted by coachark (My Page) on

I am decorating a room for my 3 year old grandson and have heard of special paint to use under regular latex wall paint that makes the wall magnetic. Has anyone used this product/process and, if so, can you share any tips before I give it a try? Thank you.

I don't think I've heard of it. Let us know if you find out anything.

RE: Using Magnetic Paint?

I've used it recently in our sons room. It works well, but takes many coats. You put it on just like regular paint, wait for it to dry, and do another coat. Test the strength with whatever you want to stick to it. Plastic magnetic letters will need fewer coats than a magnetic hook with something heavy hanging from it.

It took about 10 coats in order for my sons small magnetic jar half filled with rocks to stick. Thankfully it was a small area (the underside of a shelf).
