I would like to decorate a chalkboard. What kind of paint would work best?

Thanks

What kind of chalkboard it it, Colebug? Is it made of real slate, or is it hardboard painted with that special "chalkboard paint"? Or some other kind?

Perhaps it would have been more helpful if I explained my project in the first post; let me try again.

Valentine's Day is coming, and I would like to make something special for my sweetheart. He has a dart board, but no chalkboard to keep score on. I know I can buy one, but I was thinking if I bought a little chalkboard and painted the necessary numbers and lines on it, it would be a more personal gift. So, what kind of paint would be the best for this project?

Thanks!

Instead of a chalk board, could you use a board with the pens, like a message board. I do know there is special black board paint avaiable.

:) chalkboard ought to be big enough for drunk guys to write on...some friends have one made out of a smooth paver painted with the opaque china craft paints you 'fire' in the over (similar to the 'glass' paints, can't remember the brand name, do know they do paint pens as well.

the solvent-based paint pens work fairly well, and make for easy touchup.

don't know where you'd find a decent blank chalkboard- but I haven't thought to look!

I painted the bottom 3 half feet of my younger boys room with chalkboard paint. Then stenciled the alphabet and 1-10 numbers around the room with craft acrylics.
Works fine.
Been on the wall for atleast 4 years now.

Thanks for the input. While I like the idea of a white board, my husband is a bit of a purist, so I am off to find some paint and a chalk board.

Chinacat - Yes, there is nothing like a hobby where drunk guys can throw sharp pointy objects and keep score.
