silver cutlery

| Not sure where to post this, hope someone can help. Friend washed silver cutlery in javex and it turned, what can be done to restore it? |

| Apparently the bleach causes surface tarnish and the silver can be restored with silver polish - which will be a lot of work. |

What kind of "silver" was it? Sterling won't turn in sodium hypochlorite....nor will stainless.
What's the cutlery?
