J.A. Henckels knives -- small black squares on blade mean what?

Hello, all. My wife and I were recently married, and we each have our own set of knives, of which we only need ro keep one. Honestly, I think one set was purchased as Costco, and the other at Bed Bath and Beyond. Regardless, I don't believe either is a superb set, but they do the job with no complaints on our end.

So, the question is this. They *look* identical, but the small squares (a coding, it looks like) are different. I figure we might as well keep the better set (if it exists), but I'm looking for some help as to how to read these codes.

Both knives are black handled with three rivets. Both have "J.A. HENCKELS INTERNATIONAL" imprinted on the blade, next to which is the JAH logo, followed by "SPAIN". Where they differ is the code that follows.

Knife 1:

o o

x o

x x

o o

o o

o o

Knife 2:

o o

o o

x o

x o

o x

o o

Anyone have any thoughts? Thank you!

Mark

Well, I answered my own question courtesy of JA Henckels customer support. Apparently the markings are just a code for the date/mo the knives were produced. So it looks like I have identical sets... :)
