copper kettle boiled dry

Posted by julieg (My Page) on

I accidentally boiled a Simplex copper kettle dry and the bottom and sides are tarnished as well, the inside of it is very darkish, almost black now. Have I ruined it? If not how can I clean it up so that it is safe to use?

Thanks for your help!

RE: copper kettle boiled dry

I'm pretty sure the copper Simplex kettles are tin lined. If so, it's unlikely that the lining survived in a safe condition. Tin melts at 450F.
