I'm returning my Staub starter set to Amazon

I also cancelled all my unshipped orders. The reason: three obvious chips (as in missing pieces) on the bottom of my cocotte. I LOVED using this pot. I bet this doesn't happen to most Staub owners but I've only used it a few days. I avoided Le Creuset because I know it chips and I don't like the way LC looks but I loved the Staub.

To make dinner, I cleaned off my sticky greasy preseasoned lodge logic fryer which arrived with an underlayer of rust that I was told was just vegetable shortening - I seasoned it all day but I also seasoned away all affection for it. I guess I am going to have to end my boycott of the Lodge.

I had DREAMS of making things in the 2 quart on order.

How heavy was the grill pan that came with the starter set? And was the bottom of the pan smooth without ridges? Thanks.

I have that grill in the rectangular size, as well as the set one. It's a good weight, and so is the square one in the set. Very easy to manage though in that size. Season it like you would raw cast iron. It's much easier to clean than the Le Creuset one, and takes a seasoning easily, even though it's matte enamel inside. The bottom of the pan is smooth. No ridges!

Thanks. Do you use it on a glass smooth top?

I have no experience with Staub; however, I purchased most of my Le Creuset in 1975 and it has no chips, whatsoever. I purchased some close-out Le Creuset at Price Club (now Costco) about 18 years ago with one small chip on the exterior of a 2 quart pot. That chip has not changed since the piece was purchased. Enameled cast iron does come with cautions about chipping; however, chipping has not been a problem, in my experience. I am sorry to hear about the Staub as I think it looks lovely.

The chips are on the bottom INTERIOR. I have to get a refund because Amazon wouldn't do a replacement and Staub USA didn't want to honor the warranty because they had sold all their old colors for a deep deep discount to Amazon. I woke up this morning and reordered two 2 quart Pimento red ones AND the tiny ramekins for company dinner after making oatmeal in my Visions stockpot. I missed using the cocotte so much. All the 5 quarts are gone from Amazon this morning which is just as well because white and turquoise would not have worked for us visually.
