Cheese curls coated with sweet stuff? Nope, not sure what that would be. I am betting someone here will, tho!

I had one a while back for oyster crackers coated with sweet stuff, they called it "Puppy Chow". Is that what you are thinking of? If so, I'll see if I can find the recipe.

Puff corn with sweet topping

My mom makes it all the time and if you buy the bag of puff corn(it looks like cheese curls but they are white) it gives the recipe on the bag. It is a basic caramel corn recipe but if you can't find it respond back and I will get the recipe from mom. I don't care for it but a lot of people in my family do. Deanna

Linda, a friend of mine makes them, but they are not cheese puffs, they are corn puffs.
I love them because there are no kernels to get stuck in your teeth ;)

Caramel Corn (made with corn puffs - Jay's Oke Doke brand)

1/2 lb. butter
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup Karo light corn syrup

In a 2 quart sauce pan, boil for 2 minutes only and remove from heat.
Add 1 teaspoon baking soda, mix well.

Pour over corn puffs and stir - coat well. (can use 1 to 1 1/2 big bags of corn puffs)
Bake in 250 degree oven for 45 minutes - stirring every 10 to 15 minutes.
Lay out on wax paper to cool - break apart chunky pieces.

A friend emailed me the recipe this morning....I know it sounds awful but they are surprisingly addictive! Iw as at a party and couldn't keep my hand out of the bowl...I asked "WHAT is this stuff"? LOL! Thay had papers already printed out with the recipes because every time they serve it, so many people ask! Didn't know it was on the bag...I never buy that stuff!

Caramel Cheetos®

2 cups light brown sugar
1 cup margarine - yes, for this one you must use margarine
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 - 21 oz. pkg. Cheetos® - crunchy kind

Mix sugar, margarine and corn syrup in pan. Bring to a boil. Boil 5 minutes, stirring often. Remove from heat and add soda. Stir until light in color and foamy. Spray a roasting pan (deep 10 x 14) with Pam. Put Cheetos® in pan. Pour the mixture over Cheetos® and stir, coating each piece. Place in oven at 250 degrees. Bake for 1 hour stirring every 15 minutes. Immediately, pour onto wax paper, or cookie sheets, sprayed with Pam. (This is the hard part.) VERY QUICKLY spread out as thin as possible. If not quick and spread out as thin as possible, you will get a big hard glob. After about 5 minutes, pull/break these apart even more and loosen them from the wax paper. If you don't, you'll have wax paper stuck to them when you go to eat them.

You will regret it if you don't double the batch as guests are going to demand MORE! You can bake batches together and add an extra 20 minutes to bake time. I do them separately because of having to work so quickly to keep them apart at the end. The one batch can almost get too hard while working with the other batch.

Linda, I thought this had to be a joke, since you never use recipes, I wondered how you could LOSE one!!! ;-) Well, save my soul, you'd have to have a recipe for this one cause it certainly isn't something most of us would 'think' of doing. The only thing missing is Red dye 2. ;-)

I would never have eaten it if I had known what it was....but once I did I was hooked! And when you read what it was....how could anyone "wing" that?? Could you ever dream up cheese curls in caramel????
But....it's really good! I hate cheese curls alone....and they have something in them that I am allergic to!...But for a few bites of this wonderful "carp" I will endure a head ache!!

I can't imagine how someone would conceive this recipe, either! I found the recipe on a Halloween recipe site and they call it "Coyote Droppings." Ew!

Linda, I have to tell you this posting brought me a smile. I saw it last night with no responses, and I didn't post as I didn't want to make it fall down before you got legitimate answers. It was just so funny to see you asking for a recipe, our person here on the forum that makes a lot of good things but rarely uses them!

I know how they came up with that recipe... They wanted caramel corn but didn't have any popped corn on hand... lol

A lot of people crave salty/sweet snacks but I think I'll pass on this one... lol

Your loss....or perhaps gain!! It's unadulterated carp! saturated fats, sodium and every preservative known to man....in addition to artificial color.....and lots and lots of sugar!
Another thought....maybe it's my "gain"...as in weight!

Yep - I'm gonna give these a try. They sound odd enough that the kids will love them (and I must admit - I am curious too!)

Now that's a recipe, and as you've noted, it includes most of the major food groups - fat, sodium, sugar, preservatives and artificial color. All it's missing is chocolate.

I sent it on to my daughter, she loves Cheetos.

I don't think this recipe sounds like something I would like. My daughter's women's group at church had a money maker one Sunday recently. The idea was to make and sell homemade candy. She said one woman brought Ritz crackers with peanutbutter dipped in chocolate. It seems this sold before all the other candies. Who knew?

Well it doesn't appeal to me either. But that is just because I don't care for cheetos. But I can't imagine anything that Linda would recommend being described as "YUCK". Matthew loves cheetos and if he were home I'd be tempted to make these just on Linda's recommendation alone.

It isn't the sugar and the fat that scare me. It's the transfats (margarine) and the high fructose corn syrup that terrify me.

I just finished a batch of these Carmel Cheetos! Interesting taste. I have eaten so may "tastes" - from the 15 min stirrings, I think I am going to be sick!LOL
I forgot to add the baking soda - I even bought new just for this recipe and it was sitting in front of me.
I do think others should give this a try. I wanted to take it to a party this weekend, so thought I should try it first. I can see where it would definitely disappear.
