After a big meal like that, I wouldn't really be expecting much for food afterwards. Maybe just have some chips, nuts, maybe a veggie tray, maybe a few of your cookies just for grazing. I would bet that everyone will be pretty full!

Maybe some Christmas cookies & breads? It sounds as though people won't be hungry, but may want something to accompany liquids.

If you want something savory, how about lindac's Blue cheese cocktail cookies?

Blue cheese cocktail cookies.
1 3/4 cups flour
3/4 cups chopped pecans
8 ounces Maytag Blue cheese
1/2 cup butter
2 egg yolks, beaten
2 teaspoons fresh ground black pepper

Combine all and mix with hands until smooth. Roll into 2 x 1 1/2 inch rolls, wrap in plastic, and chill 4 hours or over night.
Slice into 1/4 inch slices, and bake 425 on ungreased sheet for about 10 minutes until lightly browned.

Nuts, after dinner mints, maybe M&Ms. You probably don't need more than that. I probably couldn't eat another bite after a nice meal like that but I know some people can always eat more and will munch if you have it.

I have done that many many times....go with the nuts or chex mix or other party nibbles...
BUT...sometimes the party lingers...on and on....and I like to have an ace in the hole....like 3 dozen or so eggs and some cheese and an extra loaf of bread...perhaps some of those precooked sausage links.
More often that I can say, I have scrambled eggs after midnight...or melted some cheese for a quick rarebit...
Not saying to pull out the eggs at 11....but maybe at midnight if they are still there....
Just say..."Say? Anyone hungry? Maybe I'll scramble some eggs? who wants some?" Sometimes it's a good way to sop up some of the booze and end a party nicely.

I wouldn't be able to eat any more after a big meal. I would appreciate something like a hot chocolate or coffee. Nuts and chex mix are good suggestions, even small amount of chocolate. You can make some chocolate almonds bark for them to take home to their kids. Al

Remember those college years when you drank and partied well after midnight, then everyone went to some 24 hour diner and had breakfast? I like LindaC's idea. Nothing like some protein, carbs and grease to help the booze along.

You can always make one the breakfast type casserole, bake it if needed or save/freeze it for later.

Some of us were doing that well into our 50's!! LOL!!
I don't say have a casserole....too planned. It's really so easy to scramble some eggs. And if you do a dozen at a time it's fast and easy.
And if no one wants more food....why then you just have some extra eggs and not an uneaten cassserole.

Thanks for all the opinions. I always have eggs, cheese & bread and I just bought 10 pounds of breakfast sausage for a band fundraiser - so I will offer breakfast to anyone who won't go home! I have been with the same company for 25 years and believe me, the Christmas parties have gotten a lot tamer!I haven't tried Linda's blue cheese cookies, but I make one that people like with sharp cheddar, butter, flour and rice krispies! So maybe some savoury cookies, some good nuts and a dessert tray. For some reason, I just this minute recalled that my grandma always called little squares and such "dainties."

• Pretzels with mustard to dip

• bar mix (e.g. chex mix)

• Christmas Cookies

• grapes to munch

• a bowl of plain M&M's and dry-roasted peanuts

I was thinking along Bizzo's lines. Grapes, apples and pears washed in a bowl, cheese and crackers maybe some hard salami, nuts and chocolate candies. Requires very little prep time and can be eaten or not and no great loss.

We just had some people back here after DH's birthday dinner and I served:

cheese and crackers
grapes and clementines
bowls of nuts and candy (the candy was a big hit - dark chocolate m&ms, swedish fish, lemonheads, snowcaps, mike & ikes, etc...)

also, big pitchers of water with lemon slices.
