My mini-chopper died

Posted by dktrahan (My Page) on

My toddler pulled my mini chopper off the countertop on Thanksgiving and I'm going to have to bury it. It was my favorite appliance. I used it all the time. I think it was a Hamilton Beach and it held maybe a cup but it was perfect for chopping up one onion or a few celery sticks.

Now that it's gone, I'd like to upgrade a little, but not much. It was a perfect size but I wouldn't mind getting something a little bigger if it would come with 2 speeds so I could actually chop something and it wouldn't end up pulverized. I mostly do onions and celery which I like being pulverized. For the new one, I'd like to be able to do chopped nuts and still be able to see the nut.

Any suggestions?

I've got a Hamilton Beach 3/4 liter. I use it all the time but it does have just one speed. I'll make multiple batches of something just so I don't have to wash the big food processor. I've never chopped nuts with it so I'm not sure how it would work for that.

Is it a mini-processor? I have a Cuisinart mini-prep plus; I like it so I can't remember what my motivation was last week to explore other processors. I found the unit in the link below got high marks. Take a look at all the mini's on Amazon to get a better idea of what meets your needs and what the feedback is on each.

I went through two Cuisinart Mini-processors before switching to a mini KItchenaid. Both of the cuisinarts lasted less than a year. I've had the Kitchenaid now for about 5 years. Gets used often, especially for grating fresh bread crumbs and parmesan cheese.

Cathy, that Black and Decker is cute.

I've had the same Oskar Jr. for 17 years. I use it alomost every day. I love this little gizmo. It sits on the counter next to the stove just waiting to chop whatever I stuff in it. It's simple, easy to use and easy to clean. I don't believe they make them any more but I think they are available both on Ebay and refurbished.

Ann, is yours the 3 cup? I am looking for one, I have never had one, so I don't have anything to compare..

Well, the closest thing I found to my mini mincer is the moulinex choppers. It's the kind where you just push down on the motor housing on top and it starts it up. I don't see where I can get the Moulinex in the states.

I saw the Black & Decker one but it looks like it's missing an important piece--a plastic disc that keeps the food from touching the housing on top. Maybe they just don't mention it in the description. Does anyone have that one?

Cuisinart has the mini-mate plus that looks similar but it got really bad reviews.

I saw this Miracle Mincer but I don't see any reviews of it--I'm afraid it would liquify instead of just mince.

I looked on ebay for the one I already have but I guess like all the good stuff--they don't have them anymore.
