GW Cooking bug, anyone else experiencing it?

For the past few days, when I come here to this forum, before I can even click on a single thread, WHAM! I'm taken to securebean.com or Forbes magazine(?) in a flash. I'm on an iPad Air and this does not happen with any other site, nor does it happen with any other GW forum - just Cooking.

After I'm hijacked to the other site, I have to close out the site and start all over again to get to Cooking. My son was standing by just now and saw what was happening. Maybe I should report it to Tamara at GW?

What browser are you using? Something like that happened to me the other day, but not on GW, and I just figured I'd touched something that hadn't loaded yet, but it could have been a hijack--it sure behaved like it.

hey joann --- glad my post helped you out! i got a better look at my bees this weekend. i don't think they are carpenter bees. from what i understand, the thorax of the carpenters are shiny. the bees in the bedroom are fuzzy. so i'm somewhat certain that they are bumbles --- but we've never had so many of them in the house before. this weekend, while in the front of the house, i could hear this faint, constant humming/buzzing noise. i looked up at the trees (i think they are norway maples?), and could spot a bunch of bumblebees flying around the flowers. the trees are very close to the house, so maybe some of them are somehow getting into the house? they primarily end up in the bedroom. i tried to look around, but didn't notice the entrance. but our house is so drafty. maybe they can crawl in around the windows somehow? it did not seem to be as bad this weekend. i do capture and release them out the window, using a glass and an envelope. none of them have been at all aggressive. but honestly, it was starting feeling like they were somehow just circling around and getting back inside the room! sometimes it feels like each spring brings a new plague! :-) --robbie--

Ok, so i have been having problems with White Flies in New York state. I used the vinegar solution you guys suggested on both my tomatoes AND my green peppers. It seems to have sort of worked on the tomatoes (although i might have treated them during full sun and thus burned a few leaves, whoops) but i think i killed my green pepper plants (or certainly have scared them horribly). They have brown spots on the leaves now (and one of the flowers is shriveling up)A few of the leaves are drooping (or turned a very pale yellow/brown. I cut a few of the dead leaves off (in hopes of exposing the surviving leaves), but my question is this, did i do a number on my green peppers? Could they still survive (i did put miracle grown on them tonight in hopes of saving their lives) and after all this, will they still be edible? I'd rather not poison the family because i sprayed the planets with a vinager/dish soap solution. Thanks for any help you guys can give me. I'm a new gardener (this is my second summer attempting a garden on my patio in just pots, last year was a disaster but this year was amazing, until the white flies showed up and i got it my head to try and "save" the plants. Irony, how i hate thee *sigh*).

Anyone else hate their ceramic cook top?

I feel so guilty even saying this because my children bought me a beautiful looking GE Stainless steel, ceramic top stove and I absolutely despise it! How I wish I could have had either another electric coil top or my fave - a gas top. Ceramic is a joke to cook on. It takes forever to heat up or to cool down, you can't leave anything simmering because it does NOT simmer, and nothing really cooks correctly. Who cares how "lovely" it looks if you can't actually cook with it. I wish I could return it!!!!!!! I am an experienced home cook, but the ceramic glass top is enough to reduce the most experienced cook to tears because it does not really work. You cannot simmer, fry, stew, or sauté correctly without taking the pan on and off. I finally bought an electric counter top skillet which I use for frying and sautéing. I use the glass top to boil pasta water, and tea. That's about it. I use my slow cooker for stews and tomato sauce or thick soups and my electric skillet for everything else. My stove bakes perfectly so I use it for baking. BUT to think that my children paid a fortune for this stupid stove is sad and just plain WRONG.

Hello and thanks to all that have replied back!! Wanted to post back yesterday but teething twins and VERY active 4 year old boy(all boys by the way) can sometimes be crazy..Cannot imagine when I start teaching again in a month.. jsweenc: Thanks so much for your info and most of all the pics. your kitchen is actually one of my inspiration pics. Yes we did get crossed. I started to reply back before you had written your post and then got sidetracked by two screaming babies:-) and only got back to my post like 30 minutes later and then noticed you had replied. I am happy to hear some info from someone who does use this granite and does cook like a normal everyday person and is not obsessive about cleaning. I have a friend who has a honed finish on her granite but she is almost ocd about cleaning that I know that is not for me. The pics actually look like soapstone from far away and I like the close ups as they convey the texture. They dont look like anything would get stuck in them. How do they hold up to heat? I know that the crockpot did something to yours( i believe it was your post) and I do use the crockpot in the winters. Does it hold up to heat well. Can I put a hot pan on the counter or will it affect the top? Again any help appreciated as it is great to hear from people who have this granite and not just someone trying to sell it to me at the granite yard. melissastar; I do love soapstone but am afaid of it also. I know that sounds stupid but I am just afraid that I will end up with the soapstone that always has rings and will need to be oiled all the time. Is one soapstone less of a headache than another? rookie_2010; I also love your kitchen progress. Thanks for the info. It seems like you do not regret your choice of this over soapstone. Hubby also wants shiny granite but is leaving up to me as I do all the cooking. jrueter: Your post was helpful in that your granite seems to have taken some use with cooking. Especially good to knwo that pie crust was easy to clean up. It seems like this granite would be a good choice for me but especially for my boys. My husband is actually not that bad at cleaning up. When you scrub off dried on messes does it affect the surface at all? YOU LADIES ROCK with informatin. Thanks so much. As mentioned most of my decisions and purchases have been made through the internet. I am going to attempt to bring the twins and 4 year old to Home Depot now to look at tiles and lights...Should be interesting.. Thanks

I'm using Safari as my web browser. What I find odd is that this action has only happened on the cooking forum at the GW?

YES, ME TOO!
It's only on the iPad so Safari is our browser. It's been awful, although not present last night or today. It's so invasive, I just leave CF rather than deal with it.

I'm using an Air ver. 7.1.2 and couldn't make it happen in either Safari or Chrome. I didn't try AdBlock (yet another browser) since it didn't happen in the first two.

When the thing sort of like it happened, I was on a major clothing site and I think it was in Chrome.

Do you start to scroll before the page fully loads? Could you be accidentally touching the banner ad?

No and no, not scrolling too early, not accidently touching a banner ad. The only ad I see (that's not GW) is up at the very top.

It has not done it again late today and early evening. Let's hope it's gone!

I wonder if it's at the node level?

Have you tried rebooting? Both the browser (double click the home button and flick the browser pane up to close it), and the iPad (hold down the top button until the slider comes on the screen, slide it to turn off, and let the device cool down for half an hour). Sometimes when weird crap happens, rebooting makes it all better.

But, most likely, it's another of those really annoying GW advertising schemes...

I cannot express how much I hated my Iphone and Ipad. I still have the Ipad. Don't use it. Sold the phone and got one that is so much better!

It was doing the same to me this morning on the Decorating board. iPad Air. Irritating.

AND, for some reason, I can not touch and paste in the Message box. I tried to post a photo from my Photobucket account, when I touched, the option to paste lasted less then a nano-second.

I've had the copy-and-paste problems earlier this fall, but now it seems to have worked itself out and is behaving better.

I deleted a puzzle app earlier today in the hope that it helps the hijacking problems. When it happened earlier today, I was not on the GW and wasn't even touching the iPad Air at the time, just reading and.....BAM!!! it got me again.
