What improvements happen you substitute Confectioners w/Granular?

Sugar that is, (the letter limit stopped me on that one.)

The question includes stories recipes that failed by the substitution.

I wonder if you experimented by choice, by accident, or had to swap because you might have run out of granular sugar and what your results were.

Contrary to discussion of opposition for the technique in another thread, I found that my pound cake improved considerably when I made this change. I did so to get a better whipped butter/sugar set up. It worked. I plan to continue the exploration. My next test will be to do the original recipe but add cornstarch as is usually found in Confectioner's sugar. Maybe it wasn't the sugar.
