Whipped Frosting...Needs more flavor, please help
Comments (20)I've been making this icing for years. My recipe is slightly different (flour/milk/vanilla amts.) Waldorf Astoria Frosting Cook together until thick: 1 c. milk 3 T. flour (Beat until cool) Cream together & beat until light & fluffy. 1 c. butter 1 c. sugar 1 Tablespoon Vanilla Combine the two mixtures, adding the cooked portion gradually. (I always just incorporate the two mixtures & beat it briefly.) Love this frosting but it probably resembles a filling a bit more than a frosting. That is, if you want fancy swirls & peaks, I don't think it's going to work for that. Maybe the other recipes using more flour might be a bit more decorative? Anyway, I love it just cause it tastes good and is just sweet enough w/o being too-too sweet. Oh, I always use salted butter and a 'glug' of vanilla--don't measure. Several posters here rave about KA's 'Fiori di Sicilia' flavoring so maybe that would amp up your frosting? (I haven't gotten around to ordering any of it yet...)...See MoreWhat type of cream? do you use when diapering??
Comments (15)You really don't need diaper cream unless baby has irritation going on. 95% of the time I don't use anything. When there is a little irritation, I use Earth Mama Angel Baby Bottom Balm. I guess the exception is for the first few days after they are born and they have the thick, sticky meconium poo. Slathering on some of the Bottom Balm (or just using plain olive oil) helps keep the sticky stuff from sticking to the skin. I've never used any kind of powder on my 3 kiddos. I go back and forth between cloth diapering and regular disposables....See MoreLOOKING for: use for Miracle Whip
Comments (14)I also ended up with an industrial sized jar of MW after a graduation open house, so I had to find ways to use it, besides on white bread with fresh tomatoes as a sandwich. Here is a cake recipe that takes Miracle Whip as the "fat" ingredient, it was pretty good. Then again, maybe it was just the caramel frosting that I put on it, LOL. MIRACLE WHIP SPICE CAKE 3/4 c. Miracle Whip 3/4 c. sugar 2 1/2 c. flour 1 tsp. soda 1 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. cloves 1/2 tsp. nutmeg 3/4 c. cold water 1/2 tsp. salt 2 tbsp. molasses 1 tsp. cinnamon Combine Miracle Whip and sugar. Sift together the flour, soda, baking powder, cloves and nutmeg. Combine cold water, molasses, salt and cinnamon. Mix, alternating wet and dry ingredients into sugar mixture. Place in a 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. I also used it in chicken and ham salad, potato salad and as a dressing for a salad made of broccoli and cauliflower pieces, with 1/2 cup of raisins, 1/4 cup sunflower seeds and a few slices of crumbled bacon. Mix a cup of MW with a couple of tablespoons of sugar (to taste) and enough vinegar to make it "pourable", pour over salad and refrigerate. It can also be used straight as the dressing on top of a 7 layer salad. Annie...See MoreWhat to use for whipped topping for bake sale pie
Comments (15)If you know how to (have the equipment for) pasteurizing eggs, or can buy them, both the pie and the meringue would be stable. How long will the slices be out of the fridge? If it's a couple of hours, it's fine either way, even given awhile to get to their destination. If it's much longer, all that raw egg is a bad idea. Whipped cream (unstabilized) might look worse at that temperature than meringue. If it all seems too much, how about decorating with a thin twist of lime zest. Key limes aren't all that pretty, so you could get a Persian lime for decorating if you want, and have more color contrast to the pie as well....See Morecloudy_christine
