I was inspired to try spatchcocking a chicken after John endorsed the method on my 1st roast chicken thread. I watched 3 youtube video and felt confident when I started.
Used my kitchen scissors and starting cutting the back bone out. This was hard. I finally got it out but there are sharp little bones sticking out that made it hard to handle the chicken. I gave up on the breastbone.
Questions. Do I need new scissors? Is the bigger the bird the harder to spatchcock? This bird is 9lb. Whats with these razor bones sticking out? Did I not cut out the backbone correctly? The videos made it seem like the breast bone would just pop out with a little help. Didn't happen for me, why?
The chicken is waiting to go in the oven so I'm just wondering if I should attempt this again on my next chicken.
