Cube steaks

I haven't bought cube steaks in quite a few years (we've considerably reduced our consumption of beef), but this week, I picked up a package of a half-dozen small steaks. IIRC, I used to just pan-fry them, perhaps adding onions, green peppers, or mushrooms, but I'm wondering if any of you have a more interesting way of preparing them.

I consider cube steaks a humble, family-style dish, not a company dish, so there's no need for anything too complicated or fancy. Also, I would not use any dairy products with the meat. Any suggestions?
