RIP, Mr. Food

The familiar TV chef who always gave fast and easy recipes for the cooking challenged or someone just wanting something quick passed away. He'd been suffering from pancreatic cancer for the last year. Yes, I watched his spot on our local new station a few times.

My parents thought Mr. Food (Art Ginsburg) was great entertainment. They watched him on a t.v. station out of Wichita, KS, and mom had a few of his cookbooks. "Oh, it's sooooooooo GOOD!"

I enjoyed him, whenever I got to see him.
He often had a spot on one of our local
television channels. But, his spots were
syndicated, which mean't that my local
channels did not want to spend the money.
He was big on local produce, and he was
so full of life. I will miss him
Long live Mr. Food. (Amen).

Where can I go to find all of Mr. Kuk's introductions? First of all, you can go to the Hosta Registry and do a search by using the Hybridizer's name. This will list all of the cultivars which were registered under Bob Kuk's name. There are 17 introductions listed, as of November 2011. Secondly, you can look up "Bob Kuk" and "Kuk's Forest Nursery" in the index of The Hostapedia (page 1065) to see all the cultivars that are referenced. These will include both registered and non-registered plants. Thirdly, you can go to the website of Kuk's Forest Nursery which is posted here, click on "Plant Lists", and then click on "Collections" to view the Kuk's Forest Nursery introductions. Fourthly, you can go to the MyHostas Database, select "Originator" in the search field, enter "Kuk" and click "Search". This will list all of the Kuk hostas entered into the MyHostas Database. Lastly, you can go to the Lemke Database, click on "Intros", then look up "Kuk" under the "jkl" index.

Heart attack at home... He was so good. He got SO excited when great plays or homeruns were made by EITHER team. "Get out the rye bread grandma it's grand salami time" LOL 33 years. the whole time the Mariners have been in existence. He reminded me a lot of my Dad. Hi Siobhan, it's been a tough year for me. A member of my family battled colon cancer this year. Thankfully, she is now in remission. I guess my emotions are still pretty raw from dealing with that experience. Marco's death is just so unfair. I'm finding it hard to process. Your experience is very similar to the loss of another friend I experienced a few years back. It is an awful feeling. Someone mentioned in an earlier posting about how Marco's obituary sounded like he himself had written it. Actually last summer, Marco informed me that he had updated his will, and made various lists and instructions for his friends and family in the case of his death. This is so typical of Marco's consideration for others. He himself may have written the obituary, though I can't imagine he ever thought that he had so little time left.

I used to watch him when I could. Always liked his spots on TV.

Oh, that is sad to hear. I always enjoyed him and have several recipes of his that I have made over the years. Yes, rest peacefully, Mr. Food.

I enjoyed him when I saw him. He was more fun to watch than a lot of those more pretentious chefs on Food Newtwork and Cooking Channel.

The original "semi-homemade", dare I call him a "chef"? I enoyed his spots. They haven't been on in this area for a long long time. He really showed that simple things can be good. A lot of starting cooks should learn from him, the biggest thing is don't be afraid of the kitchen.
