White Castle Stuffing? Really???

It has been downright balmy here the past week, so last night we took advantage before the cold front moves in later today. We invited our neighbors over, fired up the fire pit and had a few glasses of wine. Talk soon turned to Thanksgiving.

One neighbor said her brother called her and told her he found a recipe for stuffing made with White Castle Hamburgers. He asked her to make it. She is going to.

My immediate reaction was EEEWWWWW! But all the guys thought it sounded wonderful!

Not to worry, she is making her regular stuffing too, but since her brother agreed to get the "Whities", she is making a batch of this to appease the menfolk!

White Castle Stuffing will never pass these lips!

Well, except for the pickle, it's bread and meat and onion, right? I never got used to the idea of sausage in stuffing/dressing anyway, but hamburger meat isn't that far off, I guess.

A diaper pail, Ingrid? That is too funny. Someone else on Gardenweb posted that Gentle Hermione smelled like baby poop. I decided to give that rose a wide berth. Perhaps they are related? Some years ago I went to the Huntington and smelled many of the roses in bloom. I made comments on some that stood out, particularly good or bad. Now I have never smelled, by itself, myrrh, but there were Austins which were described as having that scent and I tended not to like them. I wrote the label "stinks" by these Austins: Mary Rose, Symphony, and Fair Bianca. While I particularly liked the scents of Gertrude Jekyll, Pretty Jessica, Admired Miranda, and The Countryman. Some other roses also received the "stinks" designation: Enfant de France, Katherine Zeimet, and Boule de Niege. Boule de Niege didn't have the same stinkiness as the others however. To me it had the unpleasant aroma of sweaty gym shoes. Such a pretty thing though, and it received so many high praises from others that I thought surely I was mistaken. So I bought it at a Huntington plant sale and brought it home. Grew beautifully in my garden, with lots of leaves and many charming white, moderately-sized flowers. Well, I was hoping to see more white summer tables when I got back and I'm not disappointed! I'm over the moon crazy for your table, OA!! What an imaginative, original tablescape! Love the sandcastle and love the way you've surrounded it with the sand and the rope edging. Cute idea to add the beach shovel at one side, too! The menu sounds wonderful. I've already posted the coral fabric a couple of days ago; see above. It won't look any different with the fringe applied. I cannot believe no one has commented on my white (but not antique white) windows (or mantel). I have to paint those still. I've been waiting to paint them until I removed the old drapery rod. Now I can do it. Good news today: Calico Corners extended its 25% off fabric sale through 1/26, so I have time to wait for my samples to arrive before committing to the RL Foxberry plaid. I would get it somewhere else and feel less pressured, but CC's price is more than $20 less than even places in fabric row here in the city because I've been told that CC has special RL pricing (on top of which I can get the 25% off). I ordered a bunch of memos of the discontinued fabric from Robert Allen today. They have to be sent from SC, so it'll probably take a few business days.

Greek Stuffed Peppers 4 large bell peppers (green, yellow, red, etc.) Stuffing: 1 pound lean ground beef or lamb â cup raw, long grain rice â cup water 1 large onion, finely chopped 2 - 4 cloves garlic, crushed or finely minced Â¼ cup olive oil 1 8-ounce can tomato sauce 1 teaspoon dried mint 1 teaspoon dried dill 1 teaspoon oregano 1 teaspoon salt 1 cup hot water or broth Pepper to taste Peppers: Slice off the top of the peppers. Remove white membrane and all seeds. If desired, remove stem from top piece and use to "cap" the stuffed pepper or chop and add to filling mixture. Stuffed Vegetable Preparation: ÂSautÃ© onion and garlic in olive oil until translucent. ÂIf using, add reserved chopped green pepper. ÂAdd rice and 1/3 cup water. ÂParboil rice until almost all liquid is absorbed; set aside. ÂIn bowl, combine ground beef or lamb, parboiled rice, onion, garlic, tomato sauce, mint, oregano, dill, salt, and pepper. ÂMix thoroughly. ÂPlace peppers into lightly oiled baking pan. ÂSalt cavity lightly. ÂStuff the meat/rice mixture into peppers. ÂAdd the hot water or broth. ÂCover pan. I'll have to ask her how it was. Must be a "guy thing".

Nope, we don't even hav a White Castle within a couple of hours, although I do know that stuffing should be made with stale bread, LOL.

I'll bet my family would want me to make it, if they knew about it. I'm not telling.

Saw the recipe years ago, and ran across it this year along with the Twinkie stuffing. I'm passing on both if ever offered, and you can keep the "TurDunkin'" too, though I would try the Tater Tot stuffing if someone offered it.

Speaking of White a$$holes as they're better known around here, they were what were first called "sliders". It was *far* from a complimentary term. I don't understand why everyone who makes a small burger or sandwich, especially a good quality one wants to call it a "slider" these days. I'd rather call mine dogshitake on a shingle than compare my cooking to that unhurled vomit.

The "WC" (is that more than just a coincidence?) does have good fries though. I'll give them that much. And I liked their (though short-lived) chili. Chunks of Angus beef, no beans, and nice flavor. But no snot on a tea biscuit for me.

Lmao, cynic! But if you don't appreciate WC's it just means you don't smoke enough weed. It's delicious as long a you're not too sober. Can't wait to try the stuffing!

Oh, there's nothing in the world like the 2 am crowd at the "castle". Problem is you really shouldn't drive after five minutes breathing the air in there!

Gotta give 'em this much though, they're a loyal crowd. Back in my bar closing days the castle was one of very few places open to get foo, uh, no, not food, but, well something to absorb the booze for the drive home. The trick was to find an alternate exit. Cops seeing you pull out of the WC at 3am would usually pull you over. Either you were drunk, high or seriously ill! They seldom wanted to smell your breath though, fancy that! :D

If you'll excuse me, I must depart now. It's not often my body threatens to purge from more than one end just at the thought of the misuse of groceries.

But remember, the "holes" cost them extra!
