quinoa burger?

I wonder if anyone has made quinoa burgers, and could share your recipe. I had one the other day at a restaurant, and it was delicious. They had had it with carmelized onions, and it was just so good.

I make quinoa patties from leftover cooked quinoa. If you use red quinoa, it actually looks more like a meat product than using white quinoa, if you want to serve them on buns as an alternative to hamburgers.

No recipe - add a beaten egg/s (depends on how much quinoa you have), finely chopped onion or fresh chives, parsley, dried vegetable flakes (optional), seasonings of choice (McCormick Grill Mates Barbecue for a bbq flavor, Mrs. Dash Southwest Chipotle is good, or something less meaty will work as well), cheese (Parmesan, etc.), nutritional yeast (optional), bread crumbs (enough to hold the mixture together).

I've also added sprouted lentils (fresh or dried) or dehydrated sprouted navy beans, dried pinto bean or black bean flakes, or mashed cooked beans of any kind will also work.

This is something I make with leftovers and anything I happen to have on hand.

Pan fry or bake in the oven. They also freeze and reheat well.

I haven't been able to find my old favorite veggie burger recipe that I developed MANY years ago, and recently tried this one from 'allrecipes' that I really like. It is a very forgiving recipe and I change it easily according to what I have 'on hand' and what sounds good.

Read the comments given with the ratings, because they offer many great suggestions. I've sub'd instant oatmeal for the breadcrumbs, I've doubled the quinoa, used different peppers, added carrots, etc. It's ALL good! :)

BTW: I don't ever add cumin to the recipe when I make it. I just don't want that flavor in my "burgers".

From what I observed, quinoa sprouts very fast (about a week from planting indoors.) They slow down a bit after getting their first leaves, then seem to speed up again later in summer. I found out by accident that it might be a good idea to clip the tops off before they get too tall. They will split and form buds on each stalk. The lower leaves start to die off as the plant matures. I think they are ready to harvest when a good amount of the leaves have died off. If you shake a bud into your hand, and seeds fall out, it is ready to harvest. The internet told me that they can cross pollinate with goosefoot and may or may not change the seeds. I didnÃ¢ÂÂt see any goosefoot growing near where I plan to grow next year, so hopefully shouldnÃ¢ÂÂt have to worry about that. These are the professional observations of an office puke who knows nothing about agriculture.

We'd break up the leftovers and add Mexican spices for burritos. * Exported from MasterCook * Surprise Burgers Recipe By : Rosauers recipe card Serving Size : 10 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : Vegetarian Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 1 1/4 cups lentils 3 cups water 1 cup finely chopped onion 1 cup finely chopped carrots 2 cups whole wheat bread crumbs -- more if necessary 1 teaspoon garlic powder 1/2 teaspoon oregano -- * see note 1 egg 1/2 teaspoon salt 3 tablespoons butter, margarine, or oil cheese slices Wash lentils. Add water and bring to a boil. Lower heat and simmer about 15 minutes. Add onions and carrots. Cook 15 minutes or more until lentils and vegies are tender. Stir in bread crumbs, seasoning and egg. Drop lentils by rounded 1/3 cupfuls into hot oil. Flatten with pancake turner. Cook until firm and brown on both sides. First, my apologies to everyone in both Alabama and Arkansas, I had a senior moment. It is ARKANSAS that is the big rice-producing state! Second, the labeling doesn't make that much difference to me one way or the other, I am an inveterate label-reader, ingredient scrutinizer, etc. so this doesn't really affect me, BUT my shock was over how "competitive" and hip cauliflower has become! It's never been a particular favorite of mine because frozen or steamed cauliflower I just don't care for taste or texture. But later on in life having been introduced to it raw, stir-fried and also roasted, I learned to like it. I haven't had it "riced" yet and not sure if I ever will take the time to do that. Hubs isn't much of a cauliflower fan either. But I did just get a notice from my NYT recipe e-mail subscription for a roasted cauliflower bruschetta type topping that I might try. Cauliflower is showing up everywhere now. My big issue with it in the past was it was relatively expensive and the big heads tended to go bad on me before I would use them up. I don't buy pre-prepared vegetables, too wasteful and unnecessary expense.

I eat burgers at home, fast food burger and burgers at sit down places. They are all different. I generally avoid BK, McDonald's and most fast food burgers only because they don't taste that great to me. In and Out tastes OK but you better gobble it down fast before it cools or gets soggy. Plus it's really a skimpy on the meat if you get a single which I prefer when eating burgers. Five Guys is the worst burger available in my opinion. Disgusting wet mess. I think Jack In the Box has the best fast food burger since they improved their bun. I get my "fast food" burgers at a couple of drive in where they cook to order. Like the old Foster Freezes and Dairy Queens used to do it. Had a great patty melt at one the other day. On rye and just the right size unlike some of the huge things at a sit down place. My favorite burger place is a little hole in the wall that has fresh beef and also has bison and ostrich burgers. In a sit down restaurant I am more likely to order a patty melt or an open faced chili burger. For me a good burger is as much about the bun as it is the meat. The bun should be toasty and it should hold up to the ingredients.
