Cast Party Time Again :-)

Hi everyone,

Well, it's that time again. Sunday's another cast party and here is what I'll be taking with me: Broccoli Salad and some Easy Punch. First, the punch.

I found this recipe on cooks.com. and I have changed one ingredient in this recipe. It says to use a 46 oz. can of pineapple juice. I'm not a huge fan of pineapple, so I've opted for orange juice. It may sound rude, but I thought the name Easy Punch doesn't sound fancy enough, so I renamed it to my liking: Cranberry Citrus Punch. But I'll post the original recipe for you all:

Easy Punch

1 quart cranberry juice

1 46 oz. can pineapple juice

1 6 oz. can lemonade concentrate

1 64. oz bottle soda (ginger ale, citrus, grapefruit, lemon)

Mix all together. Makes one gallon (20 servings).

I could only find a 12 ounce can of the lemonade concentrate. Oh well.

Now for the broccoli salad. I am doubling this recipe to make sure that there is enough. Broccoli crowns are on sale at the store we shopped at today, so I lucked out there. I'll post this recipe again :-).

Broccoli Salad

1 head broccoli

8 oz. bacon

8 oz. shredded Cheddar cheese (I personally use mild)

1/2 medium onion, chopped

1 cup salad dressing

1/2 cup sugar

2 Tbls. vinegar

Fry bacon crisp. Cut up broccoli into pieces. Mix salad dressing, sugar, and vinegar. Add to onions, bacon, cheese, and broccoli.

Brad!! No fair!!! The play I am directing ( The Mouse Trap by Agatha Christy) goes on the boards Friday....we will have some sort of a party to celebrate opening night.....whish you could come and bring your salad!!

Brad, that looks a lot like a salad I make, but I use half broccoli and half cauliflower, I have a daughter who loves cauliflower. We love it, I'm sure the cast will too.

Betty, I LOVE the pink tablecloth in your tea setting. If you hadn't told us, I wouldn't have known it was plastic. It is such a pretty colour and goes so well with your beautiful dishes. What I find particularly appealing (besides sweet Hanna and the yummy food!) are the candlestick holders you used...I love candles of all sorts and those are great. Are they crystal? The beauty, well, one of the beauties of a cobbler is you can use different fruits or combine them too. Mix them together, or do a half and half or sort of swirl it in. I'm not a fan of peaches and I'm not sure why. But an apple filling with a spice cake topping and sprinkle it with cinnamon sugar has me interested. Or any kind of berry and maybe a banana cake mix with a vanilla sugar sprinkle. Just a couple of the myriad of possibilities. It's another comfort food. And if you happen to have access to fresh fruit, you can always adapt it to the recipe easily too. Keep on cookin' Wolfie! Your friends and family will love it. And I know you'll have a great time doing it. :)

Annie, so glad you enjoy the lemonade. Bought the lemons earlier this week, and I was afraid they would spoil before I made it on Saturday (or maybe I'll make it tomorrow, I haven't decided). LOL, maybe they should give me a part based on my cooking. I have been asked to consider doing a role, but my transportaion is limited, sadly. I shall let you all know when I do get a part. The cobbler I made before and it was very well recieved. When I made it before, there were only four pieces left to bring home. It's so easy to make and serves 16 people. I'll share the recipe again :-). Express Fruit Cobbler 2 20 oz. cans fruit pie filling (the ones I use are 21 oz.) 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened 1 18 oz. box white cake mix (I can only find 15 oz. boxes now) 1 egg. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spread pie filling in 9 x 13 inch baking pan. In large bowl, cream butter to smooth texture. Add dry cake mix & egg and blend well. Mixture will be very stiff. Spoon mixture over pie filling. Bake for 40 minutes or until golden brown. Cut into squares. Serve with vanilla ice cream or Cool Whip. Serves 16. I'll leave my cobbler whole like I did before, that way people can get as large or small piece they want. I also take a container of Cool Whip if they wish. Brad AKA Moonwolf

You should be able to get an idea of the weight from a spec sheet. Kohler could also tell you, if all else fails. UPS may have a max weight they can handle (since their delivery drivers couldn't handle a 150 lb item by theselves.) But they might have a deal to package the item and get it to a motor freight company - for a fee, natch!. I'd be surprised if the sink actually weighs as much as 150 lbs, unless it's some kind of vintage behemoth. Modern stuff is usually designed to be shippable. I have several heavy cast iron sinks and none weigh any where near that much. I know because I just shifted my stash around in the barn last month and while some were heavy, none were beyond my strength. And I am a 63 yo female.. The sellers will probably be happy to take it someplace that will see to packing and crating. Then they'd not be liable for any damage claims during transit. Good luck! L..

Annie, it's funny you should mention the broccoli and cauliflower salad, because that was a suggestion my mom had said about and I will have to try it one of these days.

Lol "that theater company is never going to want to let you leave!". Well, they've been very nice to me and it gives me a place to go on some Saturdays (our workdays), so I think I'll stay for a while ;-).

Looks like I'm gonna have fun this weekend. Making the salad and punch on Saturday and then enjoying the play and party on Sunday.

I remember your salad. Haven't tried it yet. I'm a big fan of cauliflower and have learned to like broccoli too. I also like the "medley" that comes under a variety of names, California Medley, Normandy, etc, that also includes carrots. If you like carrots, some shreds in there would add some color and flavor. If you like a little kick, use a pepper jack cheese. Don't skimp on the bacon buddy! :D

That punch is an old recipe and frankly, I like it. There's a lot of variations. OJ will substitute nicely although don't be afraid to try the pineapple juice in there. With the other flavors it won't be overpowering. I'm not a big fan of pineapple either but it mixes in well and adds something.

Thanks for the ideas, cynic! lol No, I won't skimp on the bacon, that's for sure! Oh, and for the punch, I'll be adding some orange slices for looks.

The season begins in April, and ends in December. The plays they put on run for two weeks: the first week it's Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the next week it's Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
