Would you eat last year's turkey?
| | |

Last Thanksgiving I received a free 8 lb turkey breast with my grocery purchase. It's been frozen ever since (and who knows for how long before I adopted it). I saw it in my freezer and thought "heh." I thawed it. Should I bother cooking it? Frozen for about a year, only one power outage....

Is it frostbitten? I'd probably cook it as long as it was vacuum sealed.

I agree, I'd cook it. If it's been well wrapped, it'll be fine. Even if it isn't top quality, you aren't out anything by cooking it, you can always make turkey pot pie or soup or something. Annie

I had one in my freezer for about 18 months and it was fine. Just a typical shrink wrapped turkey you buy around Thanksgiving and cooked a year and a half later for Easter. If you are looking for a recipe, I have done this with one turkey and many chickens and it is the best chicken I have had, bar none. Over the store bought rotisserie (surprised me!), over my own brined turkey, and over Marcella Hazan's Chicken with Two Lemons recipes...love this recipe!

As the others have said...I would cook it. Actually I have the turkey my employer gave us last year at Christmas in my freezer. I plan to cook it up next weekend for an early Thanksgiving dinner. Linda

I'd cook it. I wasn't home Wednesday; hub rummaged around in the freezer, found dressing from last Thanksgiving (I think!) and a well-wrapped pork chop dated 6-2007. He thawed them, cooked them, declared them delicious!

Thanks everyone. I also found cranberry sauce in there from last year so we're set! (Of course there's probably a reason that didn't get eaten, but I sure don't remember now.)
