Congratulations!! You will love it! Kevin and I bought one last April (see photo) and have been using it a lot. It has an easy to read thermometer on the top that is very helpful. It will get over 600 degrees and maintain heat very well, and so you can use it as a pizza oven, although you already have that. I wanted a pizza oven but decided on this instead. We have multiple screens so that we can have a pizza party, but that hasn't happened yet. We also bought the pizza stone accessory, and it is bigger than the one I have in the kitchen.

Since they are on wheels, you can easily roll yours into the garage for the winter. I hadn't thought about winterizing mine, but since you mentioned it, I moved the iron top to the garage, along with the charcoal chimney. I wonder if I should store the thermometer inside, since we are just now beginning our rainy season. I don't think we've had any rain since mid-April when we bought it, and so I forgot to think about that.

Thanks for the reminder, and I hope you enjoy your BGE as much as we do! BTW, I knew what BGE meant instantly!!

I especially like your oven, although I did not really recognized it until I rotated the photo. Did you build the table just for the BGE or did you win the table also? It looks very practical.

What kind of wood do you use in the oven? We only use mesquite wood, and Kevin soaks it first so that it will smoke more, but once it's dried it, it burns very hot. We roasted more chilies last week-end, and I make more sauce for the habanero sauce. I used only mild chilies because the sauce needed to be thinned out a bit.

Lars - Thanks for editing the photo. It is common to heat with wood here. My firewood is a mix of ash maple cherry birch etc....
I do also make a lot of scraps working in the shop. I will chop up some pieces of cherry and maple to try in the egg. I also get scraps of kiln dried birch from a local business that makes knobs.... The little chunks start easily, burn hot but fast. Good for getting things going. I hope to try making your hot sauce tomorrow.

If you're interested in Indian cuisine, I have been told that the BGE makes a very good substitute for a tandoor. You could make fairly authentic tandoori chicken, for example. Google 'big green egg tandoor' and you'll get lots of hits. Bon Appetit!
