Pizza for Breakfast

Matt has been home for a few days and I've been spoiling him.
We had pizza for dinner last night and there was enough dough left to make pizza for breakfast.

Moe's was a breakfast pizza. Topped with fresh mozzarella, bacon, fried potatoes and eggs.

And for Matt - his favourite Greek Pizza.

Topped with fresh mozzarella, potatoes seasoned with garlic, oregano and fresh squeezed lemon juice, sheep's feta and Kalamata olives.

This got me a "Thanks Mom, this is the best breakfast ever".

Yum, Ann T, I'd take Moe's breakfast any day, it's like bacon, eggs, toast and potatoes, all together. I'm assuming the potatoes are at least par cooked before topping the dough with them?

Freezing pizza? That would never happen in my house. I order extra pizza just so I can have it cold the next day. The only way I can stand to reheat it is in a non-stick pan on medium low tented with a little foil. I can't do the oven or the microwave, it just doesn't seem right to me. Cold is the best though. A slice for breakfast, then a slice for lunch, continue until gone :->

Baked eggs are a breakfast tradition in our family but I don't know that many people make them that way, so guess they might be non-typical. We call them "shower eggs" because they bake for about as long as it takes to take a morning shower. If there are leftover mashed potatoes in the house, press a 1/2" layer of them in the bottom and sides of a greased custard cup. Then break an egg into the potato nest, season and bake it. Grated cheese or crumbled bacon can be mixed in with the potatoes. Beat egg whites until stiff, shape the meringue into nests, put an egg yolk into each nest, and bake them. Put some ground ham or cooked crumbled sausage into the bottom of a custard cup, break an egg onto it, sprinkle with chives and grated cheddar cheese and bake it.

I was introduced to "Hawaiian" pizza in Vancouver in 1976 - I hated it then and still do. I do not like anything sweet on pizza, and pineapple is horrible because not only is it sweet, it is also soggy. I'm okay with the Canadian bacon, but hold the pineapple. I had always assumed that Hawaiian pizza was a [bad] Canadian invention. OTOH, I love Bloody Caesars, and I had those first in Vancouver. I make a lot of pizza style sandwiches using ciabatta bread or something similar, and I generally just make it Margherita style. I also make pizza style quesadillas using a flour tortilla and pizza toppings. I make these when I am eating alone - otherwise I make the pizza dough for 2 to 3 pizzas at a time. Everything I put on pizzas (plus more) has already been listed here, and I'm not terribly adventurous with pizzas. I have found that certain ingredients, such as mushrooms and bell pepper, need to be sautéed before adding, as they can make the pizza soggy. I prefer to grill the pizzas outside, and I have a pizza stone for our Big Green Egg, but I won't do that unless I am having a party, as a rule.

Thanks Trixie.

Annie I thought this was a pizza that you might actually like. The potatoes were fully cooked. The pizza was in the oven less than 10 minutes. I usually roast the potato cubes, but this time I fried them in the bacon fat.

I would love the Greek one for breakfast.
I don't like eggs but love the idea of a breakfast pizza.

Good stuff. Like Matt, I would pounce on the Greek pizza.

I've made Big Sur's breakfast pizza with bacon, eggs, shallots and herbs...which was served for dinner because we're just not breakfast people (and I don't think we'll ever learn to internalize the rules).
But I do think it's time for an encore.

Carol, I've never been a fan of pizza for breakfast, especially leftover pizza. But if I was going to eat pizza for breakfast it would be the Greek Pizza. Moe loved his breakfast pizza but it didn't appeal to me.

DC,American's invented leftover pizza for breakfast? :-)
