Homemade cultured butter

Last week we went to a very expensive Asian fusion restaurant in San Francisco. Fortunately it wasn't on our dime, because this is an upscale chain restaurant and frankly, for the money it had neither service nor great food to recommend it.

The food was good; just not great. One of the few dishes that was very good was a simple dish of local grilled white corn, generously brushed with European cultured butter. I was surprised my DH liked this; he's not a fan of European butters in general.

Lo and behold, Melissa Clark, food columnist to the NYTimes, ran a lovely column today on making one's own cultured butter. I believe the NYT still allows a limited free access each month to their articles, so here's the link to the article and instructions, which come with a couple of extra recipes with which to use the cultured butter:
