I am also zone 5 (wisconsin). The 1" peppers should produce (very late in the season) as long as you protect them well now. Make sure they don't dry out, and treat them like the fragile plant they are. They are very succeptible now. I started my seeds too late last year and transplanted some that small, I lost most of them. Carrots, Beans, Zucc, Cukes & Onions should be fine. The lettuce is a little late, it may bolt and get bitter FAST in the heat. The potatoes should have been planted mid-April, but you should still get some production. Tomatoes & peppers from SEED???? Sorry but DH is very right on this one. I started my tomatoes inside in March, transplanted them (about 6" tall)in Mid May, and hope to have tomatoes from them in July/Aug. about 5-6 mo from initial planting. You may get a tomato at the end of the season if you are lucky, but if you want tomatoes for sure go to a garden center and buy a couple of plants. If you get them in by this weekend you will still be ok. Before next year do a little research for your specific area and find a good planting guide. That will tell you when to start seeds inside/outside and when to get plants in the ground for best production. That way armed with good info DH won't be able to make fun of you.

Thanks for the responses. Sorry about not having pix; tech-phobic, old guy syndrome. This is really a nondescript, small yellow beefsteak. Nothing about its appearance suggests something special. Quite the opposite. BC has one variety, Golden Monarch, that sounds somewhat similar (if you can really compare verbal descriptions), but not the same. I've emailed BC heirlooms but haven't heard back yet. I, like many folks out there I'm sure, have become quite adept at looking for certain buzzwords in the descriptions to give me clues about taste. What else can we do? I'm definitely going to grow this out and see if it repeats, stabilize if possible. Thanks, and happy gardening.

Update on my Black Krim and Cherokee Purple that I planted based on your recommendations! These seeds were planted on June 2 and they went in the ground about two weeks ago. BK on the right, CP on the left. Nice blossoms growing in on both although as of yesterday I had not seen any baby tomatoes peeking out from the flowers yet. Two extra Black Krims that came up were potted up unto 10 gallons. Doing nicely...though I attempted an experiment on them by using azomite and mycorrhizae in one pot (the right one). It's a tad behind if anything though both have about the same number of blooms forming. I have one CP left (the third seed never did come up) that's in a 1 gallon and suffering. It was the smallest so I let it be for awhile but now it's budding and having a hard time. I hope to get it into the ground later today but am messing with my planting bed and waging war or roots about as thick as my thigh. My guy bought a chainsaw LOL, so hopefully it comes out today and the CP can go in.

Funny, I love Sprouts too, but I find that their produce lasts a good length of time. That's the main place I go in winter for veggies. Their prices are great. I also love their bulk items, because I can get smaller amounts that suit one person. It's where I get my turbinado sugar, chia seed, and flax seed. I also like the chocolate peanut caramel clusters, when I'm feeling careless, lol. I also like that I can get a single bone in chicken boob, and small packs of thin sliced chicken breasts. Everyone else always seems to have nothing but giant family packs. They also have Botanical Interests seeds. And good eggs. Only bad thing is that their dairy prices are the most expensive around.

Gorgeous.
I've been loving this tomato season. An odd start but now it seems 'endless'. Sharing mine with the work-force. Smoked corn salsa, gazpacho, etc.
Now roasting and freezing...hard to keep up!

Oh, lucky you. I lost all my tomatoes for the second year in a row to late blight in mid August. Before last year, I'd never even seen late blight.

Yeah, I know I am not Peter Pan. I need to grow up and stop playing with my food. :-)

For you tomato growers, I am doing everything I can to make it difficult for the tomato plants.

They say you should rotate crops. I never. The same spot for the past 20 years.

They say to keep it clean. I don't have the time. I pile deceased plant right where they grow.

Yet they keep coming.
