Do egg whites go bad?

I was making myself an egg-white omelette this morning but after eating I got busy and forgot to put the carton of egg whites back in the fridge. When I remembered it was a few hours later. I looked inside the carton it looked fine and there's no smell. Do egg whites go bad in room temperature? How do I know if it's bad?

Yep they do....but in 3 or 4 hours at not 90 degree temp you likely are fine.
Egg whites will smell...and maybe get watery or thick if they haven't been covered well.

Thanks Linda! Today was a hot day but don't think it was up to 90F in the house. So far the egg whites look fine and smell fine. I will check it again tomorrow before using it. If it doesn't smell or look right, it will go right into the garbage.

They're tough plants which should do fine without intervention. So I suspect something is wrong in its environment. Perhaps it's in a pot rather than the ground; and/or poor drainage; and/or too much water; and/or too little sun. Beyond that, if it's in a pot and has mealybugs, have you looked at the rootball? If you find whitish smudges, the plant has root mealybugs. Discard plant. If you'll keep the pot, clean thoroughly.

make an angelfood cake to put that ice cream with. Real, home made angel food cake is nothing...NOTHING like a mix or the bought stuff....and it takes about 12 whites to make a cake! Angel food cake...Swan's Down Flour box 1 1/2 cups sifted flour ( sift first, then measure) 1/2 c. sifted sugar sift together 3 times 1 1/2 cups egg white at room temp 1/4 tsp salt 1 1/4 tsp cream of tartar Beat until soft peaks form....add 1 1/3 cups of sifted sugar a little at a time and beat until stiff peaks form, Add 1 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract and 1/2 tsp almond extract, beat to blend. Fold in the combined flour and sugar 1/4 of the amount at a time. Pour into an ungreased tube pan ( it must be a pan that has never been greased and used for rolls or something else, or the grease in the cracks of the pan will not allow the cake to "climb the pan") Place in a pre-heated 375 degree oven and bake 40 to 50 minutes. I save egg whites in the freezer, too. I use them by substituting the egg whites for whole eggs in baking...2 egg whites to replace 1 egg. White cake recipes often call for using egg whites only. Angel food cake--I made one only one time (long ago) and decided that I actually prefer the angel food cake mixes to the scratch one that I made. I doubt that I used a Tried & True recipe though and prolly used all-purpose flour because I seldom have cake flour on hand so you'll likely get better results. Oh, and the whites will work for things like meat loaf, too. And, I find that they will keep for several months in a small plastic or glass sealed container in my manual de-frost freezer.

Well you begin by Googling 'common pests of tomatoes'. Then once you have your list you Google each pest individually and begin to learn about each of them. In the process of learning about each you'll discover how they reproduce, what their eggs, if any, look like, what their larvae and various instar stages look like, what their life cycle is and how many cycles they have per year in your area, what parts of the plant they attack, and lastly effective treatments for controlling them. You likely won't find all possibilities because as I said, insects are opportunists. They have their favorite crops but they will take advantage of tomatoes if their preferred crop isn't available. I agree, they're fine. Even opened and on the counter they aren't going to spoil in that amount of time.

Of course, the food police are going to disagree, they say only 2-4 days refrigerated and they have to go.

Now, are these fresh egg whites or those "egg beater" kind of things? I only know about fresh eggs, I never touch the other stuff, it very well could be treated in some way that preserves it for longer periods of time.

Annie, it's the egg whites from a carton. Just checked it again and it looked fine. You're probably right about the egg whites being treated. Think I am going to give it a try tomorrow morning.
