Nope....have never even seen a set....heard about them but never seen them.
If my plates need warming they go into the dishwasher on "dry".

Those are interesting. Since I don't have/use bone china, I wouldn't be going this route, but I think if it will work for you, great. I agree that a warm plate elevates the meal in a way most people might be unaware of. What's good is that you noticed!

We do always warm our plates. I use a warming drawer, or a low setting on the oven, if there's nothing cooking in the oven. (The convection setting works really fast!)

I like warm plates, a preference I learned from my father. Dishwasher is rarely fully clean and empty before a meal so I've never used the dry cycle method. I usually either place them in the oven if it's already warm, otherwise if it's just the two of us I'll warm them up under hot water.

Typically neither method is practical with company. You may have just helped me spend some money! Never heard of these.

Mine are ancient, but still very usable. Enjoy your new ones.

That is a very elegant looking plate warmer. It makes the whole meal look very special, much more well thought out, and delicious.

Not only that, it's max wattage is only 80 watts, and probably much less once it is thermostatically shut down after the heating temperature has been reached.

On the other hand, a dish washer uses over 1,000 watts and you have to heat up the entire insides of the washer, and you then have to have your A/C to cool the house down. Oven also uses much more energy.

To heat up just one or two plates:

I use a wet towel in between two plates, set the microwave at one or two minutes (depending how hot you want and how heavy the plates). Your plates will be boiling hot.

Of course you cannot use this method if your plates have metalic designs on them.

I am sure you don't need bone china to use them...I don't have bone china but I do have porcelain...French, Japanese and Austrian.
But I keep telling myself I don't NEED these.

My Aunt's table always look so elegant with her, albeit ancient, plate warmers. Her's are a rich burgundy satiny fabric. She uses them for breakfast, brunch and dinner.

Claire, they aren't just for bone china, it's just that they won't harm bone china and they also can be used for patterns with gold or platinum. I must be going through a romantic phase but I just love them!

Not meaning to plug this place but if anyone is interested I bet I can get them, like I said she is a round the corner, and send without the shipping costs.

Chase, I've seen those plate warmers before, and have always loved them. Sur La Table used to sell something similar, but no longer. However, due to our kitchen reno and the economy, we are tight on money, and I decided they were too expensive. I found instead (learned about on either this Forum or Kitchens, can't remember), the "Progressus ServIt Hot Plate Heaters". They are small microwavable discs. No, they aren't at all elegant or the slightest bit pretty. But they take up no room, and heat our plates in about 60 seconds. And they're cheap. It's an cost-cutting alternative to the lovely ones you've linked.

I think they are lovely Chase. I remember looking at them last winter and deliberating! Then Spring came, and the plates didn't seem as cold! I do warm ours in the oven, easy enough for 2, but with a big crowd those seem like a wonderful idea!

They look so elegant! I had never heard of a plate warmer until now..what a good idea! The only thing that we have warmed are soup bowls!

I remember my mother had plate warmers, don't know what happened to them. They sure are pretty and add a special touch.

Thanks for the clarification Chase. I actually do have my grandmother's dishes which have a platinum edge, so this would be nice for those. What I like about this is the plates can be warmed right on your buffet, which at my house would be considerably closer than my kitchen.

Sharon, those are very nice, I've never seen plate warmers and I don't think I've ever warmed a plate or been served on one!

It would be a lovely way to keep individually plated food warm while the rest of the guests have their pleates prepared, for those occasions when meals are served plated rather than family style.

How cool is that? I haven't not seen them before, but we're definitely not happy eating hot food off of a cold plate. In the winter I warm plates either in the little used warming drawer, a minute in my already hot oven after the food has been removed or by running them under instant hot water. This looks like a great solution for a larger group!

If you get room service at a hotel, you may find that your ceramic dish arrives on a metal plate warmer, that is like a thick metal dish and is heavy enough to retain heat after being heated in, I assume, an oven or warming drawer. The idea seems cool, because if large enough, these warmers could double as pretty chargers. The ones I see on the room service cart are not decorative - just dull steel - but a couple hours with a buffing wheel might take care of that.

Meredeth's best friend is being married this weekend, Meredith is the Maid of Honour.....when did they get old enough to be married!!!

Anyhow, Meredith actually asked me to order Plate Warmers for Megs for her Bridal shower a few weeks back.

They were a huge hit, most had never seen them.......two of the Moms at the shower ordered a set for themselves!

A bit extravagant I admit but...they really are lovely.
