Steamed broccoli question

OK, I know there are no stupid questions, but ... the following is going to seem like one:

I'd like to include steamed broccoli as a side dish for a company dinner. I inherited my mom's steamer pot (similar to a double boiler, but the upper pot has holes), and I've been using it frequently this summer, but it only holds enough for a couple servings. I'm wondering whether I could cook three batches in advance, refrigerate, and then reheat briefly in the microwave? Would it get too mushy or too strong-tasting, or would it be a simple and easy solution? The alternative would be to purchase a steamer insert, put it into a pot large enough to accommodate all the broccoli, and cook it at the last minute. What's the best plan?
