Spaghetti squash cooking

I have an issue with spaghetti squash....I buy mine locally from an organic grower on the cheap (three for $2!)

They are nice size, just under the size of a football. The problem I have is is cooking them...I can never get the strands separated....I bake them cut side down at 400* for 40-50 min like I've read but seems like the squash retains too much moisture and I'm wondering if I should bake them cut side up?

I guess I'm wondering what other people do? What cooking procedures do you use for these? I really enjoy them but I never seem to get mine to strand out like in the pictures....Perhaps its the squash I use? Maybe they are picked too soon? I dunno...thats why I'm asking on here...
