hi -- been away a long time

HI, hoping to see some old "friends" on here. I was a member pre 2008 and loved the group. Had a few difficulties in my life -- now divorced and living solo. Also, Dx with Celiac and having to find a new way of cooking without Gluten -- and for the most part successful (when I have time away from work!)

Hope to be a regular and enjoy the info and chats on the group.

Glad you're back! There's been a few years where I drifted and lurked on occasion because life got in the way, but the people here are always happy when you come back!

nope; it's me, still here in Studio City! 83 degrees today, sunny and very dry. Everything is either in bloom, or about to be (except the magnolias, which bloomed weeks ago). Some of my winter annuals planted in the fall already need replacing, like the stock. Pansies still doing well, and I haven't decided what to do about the petunias from last year that are still going gangbusters. I potted up the strawberries, which already have fruit. I've got a huge repotting job ahead with my dwarf lemon and some roses that are waaaaaay past needing it. Life is good; my son is graduating high school (wasn't it yesterday that he was 3 years old and in preschool?) and taking off for Japan in June....for the second time. My baby is now 11 and so beautiful with her brilliant, titian colored hair and blue eyes! Everything is good. Got a wedding coming up for my middle stepDD in May. I'm doing the mother of the bride thing, since her mother is basically uninvolved. Glad to do it, of course. I've been her mom since she was 11. I'm playing guitar in a band and played in a couple of clubs. I'm making jewelry and selling it quite a bit. I'm trying hard to stop practicing law (without much success), and I'm getting back into painting. Right now, I'm doing plein air painting in the California style, but it's been so long, I'm soooooooo bad! I'm a work in progress, for sure! Debra

Wow, thank you everyone, the warm welcome brought me a much needed smile! I must confess, Im in a bit of a depressed state here of late as I just lost my baby brother to cancer in April. I am fighting to keep myself from going under and I knew I needed to reach out, meet new people and find some other connections. I am disabled due to my health so I donot get the chance to physically go out and meet and connect with others. I remembered the KT and made the leap to try and re-connect. Oh and how many pounds of chocolate shall I bring? I make some pretty delish choc covered pretzels :) and my coffee pot is always full and ready to share!!!

Yeah, I always stay home on Black Friday or do a non-shopping outing, like a movie or theater trip. I hate crowds. I've been doing more and more of my Christmas shopping on the internet every year. I also buy "stock' gifts, the same thing for everyone. This year it's a Breakfast package for our siblings and their spouses- a package of pancake mix, maple syrup, etc. I like sending food gifts- hey, everyone eats, and no one has ever asked to exchange my gift. One year I gave everyone a coin-counting bank, another year it was a Christmas wreath, and another year a good flashlight.And if you order online, you can get gifts delivered right to the recipient. I can stay out of the store. Yay! And I am genuinely happy there will be a New Baby for next year Thanksgiving and Christmas.!!! This post was edited by jannie on Sat, Nov 29, 14 at 8:49

I was happy to see many names I recalled in a quick scan of the posts. Laughed to see that there are still swaps going around -- those were so fun!

A bit of what happened in my life

The EX had gastric bypass, lost a lot of weight and gained a mistress who is now his wife (YES lots of fun at my kids wedding, and birth of my 1st grandchild). Daughter now sells real estate and son graduated from Chapel Hill and now works for a an IT company. I work for a major financial company as a Customer Resolution Manager and met a very nice fellow that loves to cook with me.

I have gotten very lucky with meeting him -- I discovered I have Celiac and he is reactive to wheat so has no problem joining my Gluten Free lifestyle.

I've spent the last 6 years translating some of my family favorites into GF recipes and expanding my love of wine and parties. Have thrown a LOT of parties LOL. Helped cater and acted at wedding planner at several friends weddings -- love it! Maybe some day I will be planning a wedding for myself, but not just yet . . .

Wow, no wonder you have been away from here; can you say "preoccupied"? Hopefully it's a good sign that you dropped by; hope that you can make more time to visit the CF.
