can you freeze baked beans?

Mom wants to know. She brought them to our reunion today. She wants have the remainder on labor day. Can it be done?

Not a problem. I do it all the time. I have one pint just plain without seasoning. (topped it with a leftover rich pale ale beer when DH feel asleep and did not finish)... Might use it in a soup. Another pint is bbq white beans. (not at all sweet, just spicy). Another i added a bit of maple syrup, lime, cilantro, tomato, fetta etc. (greek-ish) and served with a lunch of cucumber and olives. I froze the basic lime/cilantro beans for another dish later...
When i go to the trouble to soak a bag of beans...bring to boil and let sit overnight, and make a few different dishes, it is alot of beans!. So i always freeze some for an easy later dish addition..
Red beans, white beans, black beans...

Well, you know, we've only had the beans three times so far in the last 10 days or so. We can keep up with them at that pace, but I was just looking ahead in case I do have extras that I can keep till later in the year. I had heard of blanching, but I didn't quite remember. Let's see if I have it right. Throw the beans in boiling water for 1 1/2 minutes, take out and immerse in ice water, dry, and then put them in a ziplock bag. Try to take as much of the air out of the bag (Mary, interesting idea about the straw). Alternatively, I might try 'blanching' them in the microwave and then the rest as above. Is that right? Now I almost hope I have extras just to try this procedure out! Thank-you, everyone. P.S.- Carol, how do you make oven-roasted beans? Anna

I do the same as Mustangs, more or less. 1 lb bacon, cooked, placed whole on the top 2 tablespoon vinegar 1/2 C ketchup 1/2c molasses 1/2c brown sugar 1 medium onion, chopped and fried in bacon grease 1 3lb 7oz can B&M baked beans Bake at 350 until hot and bubbly. Be careful that the bacon doesn't burn. If you want to bake for a while, put the bacon on uncooked. This is what my mother - from Boston - used when she made her beans. It was always a hit at the potluck dinner. We ONLY use B&M baked beans - my dad grew up around the corner from the factory. They are getting harder and harder to find.

I am not going to bake it and will sprinkle the sugar mix on each package before wrapping. Mostly, the ham will get cut up into bite sized pieces and fried as a topping for greens or eggs (for Dad). My new love is fried ham and greens, I could eat this everyday. The goodness of the kale, turnip or chard is balancing out the unhealthiness of the ham so I'm even, lol! Love 15 bean soup cooked with a ham bone, the bone is the prize of the ham!

This recipe from my blog is one that I first saw somewhere here on That Home Site but it's on allrecipes.com also (I can't seem to get to allrecipes.com this morning.) I just made it last weekend for a cookout and it went over very well, it always does. It's my go-to baked bean recipe. I usually use the crockpot but I baked them this last time and they were even better. I just used precooked bacon chopped and mixed in with the beans. This time I used one can kidney beans, 1 can butter beans, 1 can pinto beans and 1 can navy beans but you can vary the beans anyway you like. This recipe is not very sweet. I don't think it's overly vinegary either.

I agree, I've frozen baked beans in individual servings to rewarm later. They freeze fine.
