My new dishwasher stinks!
Comments (6)I swear, there is a plumbing curse on my hubby's family. The stories I could tell,,, but I digress. In our 25+ year old house, a few years ago we would randomly get a terrible odor in our master bath. I never could track down where it came from, but sometimes it came from the vanity sink drains upon running water, first thing in the morning, Sometimes I could track it down to the shower stall drain. Some days, I could not tell where it was coming from. It was not a daily thing, but when it happened, it was awful. I finally had our plumbers come out, since I was 100% certain it was sewer gases. They were appalled at how that bathroom sewer lines were plumbed (under the house). They went into the attic and could not find any problems with the sewer vent pipe. They suggested I let them re-work all the sewer lines under the house, for that bath only. I completely trust them, so I did. After that, we've had no more problems. WHY it took almost 25 years for the problem to get bad, I don't know. Those MB vanity sink drains were always a little funky, for the 20 years we've lived in the house. They're fine now. We don't have the problem since having the pipes under the house re-designed/re-done. I really think yours is a plumbing problem and the odor is sewer gas. I only know of our own experiences and am not in the business nor an expert. Even on septic, you'll have sewer gas vents coming up out of your roof - usually PVC spray-painted black. Have a really good and reputable plumber come take a look at it....See MoreThe smell of burning paint?
Comments (6)"My neibhor is a long time volunteer firefighter. He came over and said he didn't think it was anything electrical. He suggested we get the dryer vent cleaned out (something we have been meaning to do since we moved in 3 years ago). I made an appointment for Wed. morning, so we'll see if that helps." It is the dryer vent. Your 6 month new dryer can't breathe! That is the same thing that caused the old dryer to crap out! It was a fool's errand to replace the dryer and not even INSPECT the vent. Blocked vents, from lint buildup, are the leading cause of clothes dryer malfunction. About 5% of house fires in the U.S. are caused by a clothes dryer, nearly all due to excess lint buildup. Of all the common causes of house fire, I would argue that the dryer is the least obvious source, to most people. Most people do not clean out their dryer vents. This leads to over 12,000 house fires annually, in the U.S. alone. If everyone remembered to clean out their dryer vent, one time per year, it would cut house fires by nearly 5%. When a dryer starts taking too long to dry: If it can't keep up with the washing machine, it is a lint problem. It is not time for a new dryer!...See MoreWhat causes this smell?
Comments (79)Have had the same smell like the above letters, but it was off and on. Except for this summer, and it stayed on! I live in a condo and they sent a repairman who noticed, like me, that it was on and off. We took off a switchplate cover which backs up to the outside wall on my front entry, and the smell hit us full strength. The repairman took off the stucco board, the blue foam insulation and the pink insulation. On the wallboard, the paper backing of the insulation had left oily residue and that is what was smelling. The problem is, we can still smell it even after removing the above. The repairman thinks it is off gassing of the insulation. He's probably right but now what? Right now, I told him not to repair it right away as maybe some of it will air out. I can still smell it, but fainter. At some point he will have to complete the repairs and we're both worried that I will still have that smell. Wallboard is porous so maybe it got into that , but I can't start tearing apart walls! And why now after living here for 9 years?...See Moreneed a cure for stinky dog
Comments (15)being dogs like to roll in dead things, and other dogs wastes..be prepared to give the dog a real bath with tepid water and with specific formulated dog products. The best shampoo for dogs for simple cleaning is a good doggie oatmeal shampoo. Just make sure you rinse rinse rinse any shampoo used. Leaving trace amounts of soap can really effect the skin quite negatively. I have a walk in shower that my dog goes in and out of quite easily, if you don't have one try and find at least a hand held spray hose that can atttach to your tub faucet. If your dog continues to have smell problems and you are sure it's not getting into things I would make an appointment with a Veterinary dermatologist as he/she may have an actual health problem that is effectig it's skin and coat....See Morecentralcacyclist
