Any ideas...

I was given about 5 lbs. of dried tart cherries (Royal City, Washington), what can I do with them?

Granola, biscotti, scones, coffee cake, risotto, pilaf, stuffings, cookies...
They'll keep a long time, save some for Christmas baking.

Trueblue....Thank you so much..I just hope I don't have a problem with wilt on my Clematis..I'm also hoping it is pretty much hardy and disease resistent..If not, I am in trouble..lol Do you recomend a certain way of planting it? Oh, Logees' was bearable..I did go with Rose and Wes..lol That place always smells so good and so much to chosse from...It's funny though..Every time I go there, I am made to realize I already have most of the ones they have..ha..I am always on the prowl for something new, different and a plant that whaffs through the air! It was so warm in there too while it was cold outside..Sheesh, If I could only work there. Okay so we did one more when you said that you like to "recline", me too. So here is our last rendition with that in mind. It is all about comfort, cozy and reclining. In this rendition you will see: One double wide chaise lounge. Product Dimensions50.39"D x 38.18"W x 35.82"H . Great for cuddling up under a blanket in front of the fire on a cold winter day or just relaxing after a long day at work. Random thoughts: - Do you have any library inspiration photographs? Personally, the first thing that comes to my mind is a Hogwarts library type look, but you may be thinking of something altogether different when you say "library". - Do you want it to be functional (meaning, lots of actual books) or are you going for a book-look /a book-vibe only? I personally no longer have a lot of books ... I'm a dedicated Kindle reader, and I love holding several thousand books in one hand. I've heard it said, Buying /collecting books is one hobby. Reading is a different hobby. - The room doesn't look all that big, and bookshelves on all the walls will shrink the room about a foot on each side. - If you're going with real bookshelves, consider whether your foundation can support the weight of the books. You might need to reinforce the flooring. I say that because I grew up in a house with a wide hallway /bookshelves on both sides, and my father did reinforce our floor. - I personally would consider closed cabinets under shelves (even though that's less library) because it'd allow you to hide kids' toys, board games, etc. - Would you consider book wallpaper? - I'm focusing on books, but do you want any other library functions? A table for reading or crafting? A card catalog? Throwing out a couple pictures myself ... I like this! Honestly, it's all about that great window, but you have a single window. The ladder is a must. So much for my Hogwarts idea. But I find this to be "too much" for a home. You need furniture. Consider building shelves around that single window /making it into a window seat. Magical! I like this for its color and for the closed storage underneath. I've seen instructions online for creating this type of thing from inexpensive Ikea shelving.

Adding to that fruit cake instead of raisins, in yeast bread as cinnamon raisin bread, on top of your oatmeal....and you can add a year to the keeping time in the freezer.

Add some to your tossed salads, good in chutney. I use them in many recipes that call for raisins.

They are wonderful in Chicken Salad..

I just posted a Black Forest Cake recipe on Sherry's thread requesting Chocolate recipes...it calls for dried cherries.

Hi Marigene,

These cookies are addictive!

DOUBLE CHOCOLATE CHERRY DROPS
*****************************

1 3/4 C AP flour
3/4 C Unsweetened Cocoa powder
1/4 t salt
1 C butter, softened
1 C white sugar
1/4 C light corn syrup
2 t vanilla extract
1 large egg
8 oz semisweet chocolate, cut into 1/2" chunks
1 C dried tart cherries

Preheat oven to 350.

In small bowl, combine flour, cocoa and salt.
In large bowl, beat butter and sugar at medium speed until creamy, occasionally scraping down bowl. Beat in corn syrup, vanilla and egg until well mixed. At low speed, gradually add flour mixture; beat just until blended, again scraping down bowl. By hand, mix in chocolate chunks and cherries.

Drop dough by rounded teaspoons, 2" apart, onto parchment lined cookie sheets. Bake about 10 minutes, until cookie tops are just firm. Transfer cookies to wire rack to cool completely. Makes 4-5 dozen cookies, depending on size.

I hope you enjoy this recipe. There's NOTHING that dried cherries won't make taste better, except maybe liver:-)

I love this salad and it is such a pretty salad. I usually make Focaccia Bread to serve along with it. And for Thanksgiving I use dried orange-flavored cranberries in place the cherries.

Broccoli and Dried Cherry or Cranberry Salad

DRESSING:

1 c. Mayonnaise
1/2 c. Sugar
1 TBL Vinegar

SALAD:

2 Bunches Fresh Broccoli cut into florets (I use a abt Â½ bag of florets cut in half)
1/2 lb cooked, crumbled bacon
3-4 Green Onions including tops, cut up into small pieces
1 c. cashews or more if you like (I like more)
7 1/2 oz. (abt 3/4 c.) Dried Cherries or Dried Cranberries.

Combine all ingredients for salad and then toss with dressing.

Hmmm. There are lots of good ideas here and I love them in scones and in muffins. My favorite thing, though, is to just eat them.
