Some people might think I am insulting, but here on the forum there are some who want everything handed to them on a silver platter and expect to be spoon fed personally. Life isn't always pleasant, or a bed of roses! It does take a small amount or effort to do simple searches. I mentioned neem oil to someone in another web site and they had never heard of it. I simply did a web search for that key word and supplied a link to it. This was so easy to do for the original poster, instead of them asking the question and expecting instant gratification within the forum. There, the forums are not handled the same way, all posts get sent to a moderator and then post public, and that can take a week or more. Consider yourself fortunate when it comes to public info, that some just don't want to read or make any effort.

anney, I don't have the exact model you've noted but I have one very much like it (link below), which I bought for pretty much the exact same reasons you cite. (At the time, the MIU one I bought was on sale at Amazon for more like $25 than the $50 it is now listed at.) I like it a lot. I had used a foley-type purchased at a garage sale for $3, and found it handy and flexible (put over any pot, none of the suction-cup nonsense, which I also hate), but it was cheaply made---plastic body, and a single, rusting screen---so I figured a better-made version with the same idea & several screens wd be just the thing. Overall, I'm very pleased with it. It's easy to use and works well. It doesn't make much mess (and I'm a pretty messy cook)---the turning of the blade pushes the stuff DOWNWARD, which is the point, I guess, so it really doesn't tend to splash out. The medium screen is perfect for tomatoes and removes nearly all the seeds (though that's not a big issue for me). Have also used it for applesauce. The fine screen is great for raspberries & blackberries. I haven't ever actually had occasion to use the coarse screen yet; I might try it for applesauce. As for the down sides, there are a few. When I'm doing a big batch of tomatoes or apples, I do wish mine were a little bigger---which yours is. (Mine is 2.5 quarts, I believe, though the version in the link I've posted says; looks like you are getting a 3.5 quart one.) (On the other hand, for a batch of rasberry jam, say, a bigger one would be too big---you lose some precious berry pulp on the screen.) The screen does get clogged up eventually when I do a big batch. About every second "bowlful" of tomato sauce, I have to stop and pop out the screen and rinse it. The good news is this doesn't take long---one thing I LOVE about this machine is how easy it is to take apart and put together, and how easily and quickly it cleans! FWIW, I haven't owned a Vittoria-style food mill, but I've helped someone else work with one at their place once and it didn't make me want to change. It didn't seem to be any less work to me (there was NOT an electric motor on this one, mind you!), and it wasn't quite as easy to pop apart and clean. That's my experience---hope you find it helpful. That deal you missed isn't a very good one anyway.. It looks like a very old version of a Victorio food strainer and they were very messy, and leaked out the shaft. The latest version is from Villaware and has a wrap around plastic shield to keep spatter down to a minimum. Also, the berry screen, as an option will get all the seeds out of raspberries and so you have a perfect seedless jam. I use it for my tomatoes and the skins and seeds pass out the end, which, on the newer Villaware, is another 4 inches of clear plastic cone to push out the waste even further from the metal conical strainers. The Villaware also has a rubber seal on the cranking shaft that stops any leakage from flowing out where the handle is attached. Cutting big tomatoes in halves and smaller ones are left whole. I can 'crank out' a bushel in less than 10 minutes. Very little effort compared to a Foley and works great even for small bits like for salsa, and even pumpkin. I sold my old Victorio for $5.00 a few years ago, but still have a similar Back To Basics model, that has the older wing nut screen design of the Victorio., but that shaft still leaks when I do watery stuff like tomatoes and even raspberries.

arlosmom, I use my grandmother's food mill too! And I do hand wash mine. the enzymes in dishwasher detergent does a number on the aluminum. The one that Lehmans sells looks really good....nearly identical to my old one....except that the new one is stainless.
