Hi everyone,

Here is a simple yet delicous broccoli salad that I just whipped up. The recipe is from cooks.com and I am more than happy to share it if interested :).

I tasted it after I stirred it, and I think it'll taste better once it's chilled. My neighbors are going to love me more LOL.

RE: Broccoli Salad

Let's see....we have carrots, and onion and broccoli...I see tomato and shredded cheese....what else?

RE: Broccoli Salad

I was thinking it's broccoli, shredded cheese, onion, mayo, and bacon. Maybe a little bit of sugar?

Barnmom, you guessed most of the ingredients! Here is the recipe :).

Broccoli Salad
1 head broccoli
8 oz. bacon (I used bacon that's already cooked and you heat up in the microwave)
8 oz. shredded Cheddar cheese
1/2 medium onion, chopped
1 cup salad dressing
1/2 cup sugar
2 Tbsp. vinegar

Fry bacon crip. Cut up broccoli into pieces. Mix salad dressing, sugar, and vinegar. Add to onion, bacon, cheese, and broccoli.

I added one more thing to my recipe: which was just "stir and chill". Going to try some later on. This looks really good :).

I like this salad, too. I think it's extra good with roasted sunflower seeds added to the recipe. And raisins - if you like raisins.

That's funny MoonWolf - I was going to make this tomorrow and I was going to ask if anyone blanches their broccoli or if they just use raw broccoli. What did you do?

 o
RE: Broccoli Salad

I blanch the broccoli....very VERY briefly!!
Now I am hungry for that salad!

RE: Broccoli Salad

I left my broccoli raw, but I might have to try blanching it one of these days. This was the first time I made this salad.

Linda C, come on over! lol

I have not tried this yet, and I just got done eating supper, so it'll be a little while yet. Maybe a snack later on :).

You're good. I would have been all over despite supper!

RE: Broccoli Salad

Sounds like a lot of sugar in there for my taste but otherwise sounds good. I'm a fan of cauliflower too so I'd probably mix some in there and maybe some radishes. Possibly some cashews. Ah, a nice salad is great. This one does sound simple enough or get as complicated as you like. Good going Moonwolf. Hope you're putting together the Moonwolf Cookbook to pass around!

Is the salad dressing that's in the recipe Miracle Whip? This sounds like a recipe even my grandson would eat. Maybe even, my DIL, who doesn't eat any vegetables at all.

OH YEAH, Moonwolf, if there is Miracle Whip in that
recipe, you are my new hero. YAYYYYYYYYYY MOONWOLF!!!!

RE: Broccoli Salad

Well thank you all for the nice compliments, I really appreciate them! I did not use Miracle Whip, but just the store brand of salad dressing. You can use Miracle Whip though. I don't see any reason why you can't use it ;-).

Cynic, the vinegar helps tone down the sweetness from the sugar and I would compare it to a cole slaw dressing. I usually don't like Miracle Whip, but this is one of the few times I'll eat it. This salad is soooo yummy!

"Moonwolf Cookbook" that made me chuckle lol. :D

Brad, that looks like a very yummy salad. I don't care for raw broccoli, usually, it's one of the few ways I'll eat broccoli raw.

I usually add cauliflower to mine, sometimes sunflower seeds and raisins like Barnmom mentioned. I never thought to add cheese, though, the kids would love that.
