Theatre Workday Treats And Picnic Updates

Hi everyone,

First of all, for this Saturday's theatre workday, I am making some Cheesy Bacon Mushrooms. I've been wanting to make them some stuffed mushrooms for sometime now and I'm finally going to be able to! I am making one change in the recipe and I'll be using shredded Cheddar cheese instead of Mozzarella.

Now, for the most important news: The picnic that I've been planning with my friends for a while will finally take place on the 31st! I haven't got a confirmation from the one friend yet, but we will finally be able to go ahead with the plans! I'll have to take my camera for the occasion so I can post pictures for you all. :-).

Wow Cheesy Bacon Mushrooms! Really fancy stuff!

I will have to have lots of courage to try to make that.

Dcarch, Believe it or not, it's actually a very simple recipe from Gooseberry Patch. There's only like 5 or 6 ingredients in it and they don't take long to bake at all. I'm not sure if I'll be making them now. I'm going to go spend some time with my grandmother from tomorrow afternoon until Friday afternoon. So, there's still I chance I may make them.

Hi Mary, I'd be more than happy to share my Mandarin Orange Cake recipe! Mandarin Orange Cake 2 cups flour 2 cups sugar 2 eggs 2 tsp. vanilla 1 tsp. baking soda 2-11 oz. cans Mandarin oranges, undrained Frosting: 1-15 oz. can Mandarin oranges, undrained 1 pkg. dry instant vanilla pudding (1 small box) 1-8 oz. container Cool Whip Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and baking soda. Add eggs and vanilla; mix until well blended. Stir in 2-11 oz. cans Mandarin oranges with the juice. Pour batter into a greased and lightly floured 9 x 13 inch baking pan. Bake for 30 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Frosting: Blend together 1-15 oz. can Mandarin oranges with juice, 1 package instant vanilla pudding, and 1-8 oz. container Cool Whip. Chill for 2 minutes (or longer) until mixture has set a little. Spread on cooled cake. Mom got a stand/upright mixer some time ago (a year or so ago) from Ginny's and it's been a big help in doing cakes, cookies, and other desserts! And I don't act at the theatre, I'm more behind the scenes helping clean and put up sets on the workdays. Not sure when I'll be learning to drive, but maybe it'll be sooner than later. We didn't take vacations when I was growing up. The road trips we took were to move from one of my dad's duty stations to another. I vaguely remember driving from Virginia to California, via Alabama to meet my dad's relatives. I was only about 6 years old. When I went back to visit them years later, they told me a funny story about that trip and my mom. The water quit or power went out or something so they couldn't take a hot bath. My mom asked for water from the stream by their house because she just couldn't go without a bath, even for a day. They got buckets of water and poured them over my mom so she could get clean. She's Japanese so I guess she wasn't embarrassed bathing in front of the female relatives. They said she yelled and carried on from the cold water but got her bath. This was the year my brother got three birthday parties! One in Alabama on this trip, one in San Deigo at another stop we made at the home of one of my dad's old friend's. Bill got a puppy from them too! Then when we got to San Pedro, my dad was assigned to a submarine and they had another party for him, in the sub! Brat. The other big trip we made was from San Pedro to Fallon, NV when my dad got stationed there. We drove through Sequioa and Yosemite National parks, and through the Lake Tahoe area. The only thing I remember about that trip was the trees. When I was in high school a friend came to visit from Virgiina and my dad took us to Bodie, the ghost town in California. (I forgot about this trip!) Then after I grew up and was in the Air Force, I came home on leave and my dad and I took a trip out to New Mexico to help his step mother and brother. We went through Utah's Bryce, Zion and Capitol Reef parks. On the way home or to, we stopped in Santa Fe and visited his dad's grave, went to the capital building. I'm glad we took that trip, even though it was kinda sad. The kids and I took a short trip to Cave City here in Kentucky a couple years ago and stayed in the teepee motel...they still joke about that place. It was old, with no updates to the electric or rooms, probably built in the 50s. Then we went cross country last year out West. I don't know if they are going to remember anything, though...I bought them both moose Christmas ornaments to remember Yellowstone..or rather outside of Yellowstone. Coming into it we saw a moose and then after we left we saw a mom and her baby, but Alex said "what moose?" when I explained the ornaments. How could his memory be that short?!!!

Linda C, wishing you and your cast and crew the best of luck :-D. I had a heck of a time choosing what kind of pie filling to make for this cobbler. I originally wanted the blackberry pie filling, so I hope my first instinct was a good one. LOL I'd be more than happy to bring your company some cobbler! Annie, we love our food as much as we love the theatre. I know at the last cast party, my gram's lemonade and the Pink Lady Cake were huge hits. This cobbler recipe is from the same book as the Pink Lady Cake. I know it's not a good thing, but the thickest section of my recipe box is the desserts! Brad AKA Moonwolf

Susan wow that was quick the PO told me you would get it Thursday. I ordered the green hellebore a couple of years ago because I wanted all the colors they come in. I was praying it was dividable when I saw you like green and bingo it was. Sorry I am just now posting that I received your pkg but this Queen of the Gardens is down. I have worked so many hours in the downtown gardens I hurt my back and have been in a lot of pain. Went to the Dr. today and they gave me a shot IN MY LOWER BACK gosh that hurt. He told me no gardening for 3 days. We only need 1 more day and all the weeding and mulching would have been done. Oh well it is what it is. Anyway I love my pkg, Wow you really know how to pack a swap pkg. Tomorrow for supper, I'll be making a simple dinner for my gram and I (my uncle is going away and asked if I wanted to visit gram): the famous lemonade you all love, fried pork chops, fried potatoes, and corn.

I can post the recipe for the mushrooms if you all would like.

Home from Gram's and I can now post and focus lol. I didn't get to make the lemonade until today and she and I still enjoyed it, especially Gram.

Off to the store here in a little while to get the mushrooms for tomorrow's theatre workday!

You got it, chase!

Cheesy Bacon Mushrooms

16 oz. pkg. mushrooms, stems removed and finely chopped
1 onion, chopped
1/4 c. margarine
1 c. shredded Mozzarella cheese (I'll be using Cheddar instead)
3 oz. jar bacon bits (I'm just going to cut up some bacon slices)
1/2 to 1 c. dry bread crumbs.

In a skillet over medium heat, sautÃÂ© mushroom stems and onion in margarine until tender. Remove from heat; stir in cheese, bacon bits, and crumbs, mixing well. Spoon mixture into mushroom caps; place in an ungreased 13" x 9" baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden.

Here are some photos of the mushrooms. I used 3 8 oz. packages of mushrooms, and I'm glad I did because I really had to pack on the stuffing in them. Mom and I stuffed them and I kept them refrigerated until baking them in the oven today for lunch at the theatre.

All stuffed and ready to be baked.

Annie, dad tried some after coming home from work tonight and said they were really good. I will be making these again. I ate two of them at lunch at the theatre today. There's still some left. Come on over and I'll give you the rest! LOL
