please help with this 1980s built in
Comments (1)If you could wave a magic wand, what would you have happen? Would you have the built-in disappear and have smooth wall appear? Or will the built-in be functional for you in some way? It seems it was built to hold the larger TVs of the last decade. Is your TV (assuming flat screen) going to be on this wall? Do the components need a home? Do you want storage for firewood? For toys? Dog crate? I think you have lots of options, depending on how much work you want to do and how much you want to spend. You could pull off all that stone and drywall over it and pretend it was never there (using the smaller pulled-off stones to fix the area to the top right of the FP where you're going to have to take out some wider stones to make this work). As a part of this you could turn the space into a closet for the room on the other side of the wall. You could simply make this opening a closet, installing a door that matches the other doors in your house. You could put a new false back in each shelf area so the "cubbies" aren't so cavernous and would be better for display or for books. You could pull out the thick shelves and install more thinner shelves for books or display....See MoreIdeas for minor renovations to my 1980s colonial?
Comments (15)I would replace your front door with something more unique and less traditional. Maybe a full light with a funky glass design. And lose that storm door! Replace your dated lighting with something more current. Perhaps replace light post with bubbling rock with a light in it? All your windows have the fake mullions except the big glass of your bay window and I find that looks odd. Either add fake mullions to that window or remove the fakes from the rest of your windows. Your garden plantings are on the verge of becoming overgrown, especially the shrub on left of pic. Your bay window and porch are becoming hidden so I would do some major thinning. I also find your shutters are too narrow, replace with wider panelled shutters and keep same colour. You could also funk up your bay window by replacing asphalt roof with a metal roof. I was thinking copper but I'm not sure the colour would work with your house....See More1980’s table repaint ideas
Comments (4)Depending on what you end up doing to the rest, I might leave the buffet, as is, and paint the table and chairs. Not sure how much diy you'll do, or have it professionally done, but Pinterest has some great ideas for updating the chairs. Adding upholstery to the backs would really change the look. Then paint/finish the table to match. It has a natural division of the top and legs, so you could do the table top differently (maybe a darker stain) than the legs, if you want. there are some good ideas here: https://www.addicted2decorating.com/eleven-ways-to-update-and-makeover-an-outdated-or-damaged-dining-table.html This is a nice, neutral color combo, with a more natural table top:...See MoreI need ideas on updating my 1980s colonial
Comments (11)regarding the front, I'd pull out those round shrubs near the garage and the home since they do nothing visually for the home. You could change the garage doors to something more up to date, along w/the front door and removing the shutters. I'd do black windows. Let me show you a slew of pictures that give you ideas of colors and styles. (and don't be too quick to shoot down painting the brick. Romabio is a wonderful product w/almost no upkeep) not quite the same as yours, but I like the garage doors, the vertical siding, black windows and the addition of wood siding (you could do composite) if you painted the brick white it could look like this photoshopped these doors so you can see. Landscaping and a new driveway will have a huge impact on the overall look I love the after shot on this one. very modern looking. if you did your driveway and landscaping like this, along w/the black windows, black accents, dark garage door, a new front door and the added wood accents, it would look so much better here's another split that got a makeover. same color roof like you have. Consider doing some type of path down the middle of the grass. Notice all of the little details on this after photo. I love this one too. they got rid of the shutters, got black windows, new porch overhang w/the wood, wood posts, gray siding, modern doors/lights/address, and of course the landscaping similar splits w/a more modern redo. similar house like yours w/the brick. gray siding, updated landscaping. although the brick is painted in this one, you don't have to do it. (I like it better but it's up to you) Medium gray siding, black windows, new front door, wood garage door and upgraded lights. and landscaping. around back, the dark siding and black windows would loo like this. do a composite wood deck, or add some type of wood to warm up the darker, black tones very similar style hosue to yours, switched over to farmhouse style. they did paint the brick w/Romabio on this one do you like the green? this color siding w/your red brick would work. I'd still get a new door and landscaping and do the walkway down the middle. if you want a porch overhang, this one is nice. I wouldn't use the shutters...See Moredspen
