Great Food & Cooking & Chef Movies
Comments (32)All mentioned already but here's mine: Julie and Julia - the Julia bits not the Julie bits - when Julia first arrives in France and is served Trout a la Meuniere and has an epiphany - starting her life-long love affair with French food and cooking. Eat, Drink, Man, Woman Tampopo Chocolat - "It's not my favorite." "It's not my favorite." "It's not my favorite." Finally - "THIS is my favorite." The top two without a doubt for me: Big Night - I can't tell you how much I love Stanley Tucci and Tony Shalhoub. Love, love, love them both. And number one ---- Babette's Feast - a movie that explains without words how food and sensuality are intertwined and the marriage between them is a human necessity. How Babette brought joy to the utterly sense-starved, ascetic townsfolk and their bitter, frigid and abstinent lives, lifting them at least for one evening to a truer meaning of life than they had ever let themselves experience. That Babette gave up everything to "feed" them in this manner, to share her gifts, to thank them, to deliver a dream... still an astonishing film....See MoreFood Movies
Comments (45)We had a terrific party featuring the recipes at the back of the book Fried Green Tomatoes. All excellent, one after the the other, and the party was a huge success! I always want the foods featured in a book or movie, and have frequently made them. It's fun! Fatso and Rush Hour and the scene in The Godfather where what's-his-name tells Michael he has to learn to cook spaghetti for a buncha guys are among my favorites. Sherry...See MoreFavorite Summertime Movies You Love?
Comments (27)I'm going to throw out one because I love Scotland. It's an oldie called, "I Know Where I'm Going" which is a precursor to another great one, "Local Hero." Another Scottish one, "Dear Frankie." Some others--Outsourced, Hector's Search for Happiness, The Whole Wide World, French Kiss, and of course, Dirty Dancing. I also liked the Addams Family Values movie, which has a fantastic summer camp parody. Since summer means road trips to me, some others are "The Electric Horseman" and "Smoke Signals" and "Harry and Tonto." And the all time "fun day" movie is "Roman Holiday." Maybe "Starman" for another road trip kind of movie. or how about "If It's Tuesday it Must Be Belgium" which is an oldie but a classic. I love old movies so YMMV. I suppose maybe "A River Runs Through It" but that one is sad. "The River Why" is a good scenery movie if you like fishing, but my SO thought it was boring. Apparently James Duncan, the author of the novel, didn't like it either and sued to have his name disassociated with it. The book is great if you like water and fish. Speaking of so so movies with good scenery, my dad loves "The Proposal." I think he has a mild crush on Sandra Bullock. Don't we all!...See MoreRE: the topic of favorite movies...
