I just tried your Chocolate Ice cream recipe using SCM. I might have put in a tad more of the cocoa, used just 1 c. cream instead of two and increased the milk from 1 c. to 2 c.. If it's half as good when it comes out of my freezer as it tasted straight out of the ice cream maker, I will definitely be a very happy camper. Thank you for posting the SCM recipes for ice cream back in May of 2011.

Madonna, you are quite welcome! I hope you enjoy the finished product! It's my go-to recipe for chocolate ice cream. Funny, I was just thinking tonight about trying to get some farm stand peaches tomorrow for peach ice cream. Love summer time and homemade ice cream:)

"Plant me! Plant me!", scream my ws seedlings as I walk by. Okay, I have a few planted out. Felicia heterophylla (Blue Daisy) was blooming in the container, a very pretty blue, so got them in a bed. All the poppies and snapdragons are planted out. Have potted up some Tutti Frutti lupine seedlings that will get planted out in the fall. Same with King Arthur delphiniums and NZ delphiniums. Perennial geraniums are either planted in beds or potted up. Morning glories are potted using Fran's suggestions and are growing well. I have been moving second year ws perennials from holding beds into regular beds or taking some to plant swaps. Have been pleased with the variety of columbines blooming this spring. Love the verbascum 'Violette' and the 'Early Guardian Blue' delphiniums that are blooming now. Also many variteties of dianthus and penstemon. 2nd year ws lupine was gorgeous. Have cut the flowers back except for a stem or two left to set seed. Will start planting some of this year's perennials in the open spaces of the holding beds. Didn't get many annuals sown, zinnias and nicotiana just germinating and cosmos will be direct sown this weekend. I didn't sow any red TX salvia as last year had so much from self sown. Don't see any of them this year. Wonder if I still have time to sow some as the hummers love them. Self sown linaria have been beautiful. Will sow more varieties of them next winter.

Omigosh, walkin! It's fabulous! I had pretty much given up on my oilcloth quest, but now that I see this - I want it again! Now, the only problem I'll have will be in deciding which pattern I can't live without. There are some absolutely perfect ones there! Thanks again! :-)

Is unfortunate that the best long/repeat blooming vines seem to also often be among the most aggressive. Coral honeysuckle seems like a great alternative - very pretty this time of year and does repeat a bit for us throughout the growing season. Also appreciate the somewhat different look it gets throughout the year being semi-evergeen in north Texas. Crossvine and Carolina Jessamine are native evergreen spring bloomers that behave themselves around our neighborhood. All parts of jessamine are toxic, which rules it out for some folks/locations. We've not had problems with crossvine spreading, but it does try to use all its space; could become a lot of vine for your narrow arbor in 5 or 6 years. Some clemantis varieties are good possibilities not always considered in Texas. We coddled our big box 'Jackmanii' vine for years, and it hated us for it. Divided and moved the roots when the tree it had been growing on was taken down. Found it is MUCH happier in full sun living off the weekly (when needed) lawn watering. The newer native hybrids are also nice (and tough), though don't have the large flowers. Slower covering than others since can take a couple years to get established.

Thank you all so much for your replies! It's wonderful to see so many of you slogging through the Houzz changes in order to remain in touch, sharing your words and your photos. I hope others continue to chime in as they check in with the forum in between scheduled summer activities and in spite of current technological difficulties. Titian, thank you for the information about Florence's last posting. I may have missed it since it was located on a thread which began with another topic. I wish there were some way to reach her just to say how much it meant to share the exchanges that we did. We even shared family history and photos and artwork. Mary, I have no idea if Houzz ambushed the Furniture Forum with my post after the fact or whether I neglected to deselect the FF as a suggested cross posting site. I THOUGHT I deselected everything but Antique Roses. Since we will never know, and I prefer to maintain the fantasy that I can manage my own affairs, I'm going to cry "Houzz ambush" in order to save face. :-) Carol

So easy!

1 can sweetened condensed milk
1/2 c. cocoa powder
2 c. cream
1 c. milk
1 T. vanilla extract

Combine the SCM and the cocoa then add in the other ingredients. Freeze in an ice cream maker.

I used just 1 c. cream and 2 c. milk and it is so delicious. I like it better than any commercial chocolate ice cream I've bought.

Vanilla Ice Cream

1 c. cream
1 c. milk
1 can sweetened condensed milk
2 tsp. vanilla

Combine all ingredients then freeze in an ice cream maker.

Tracey said she found this vanilla ice cream a little sweet which is not a problem, but add in another cup of milk or cream or a combination if you like it a little less sweet.

Lemon Ice Cream (Tracey "warning: a bit tart")

1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 c. cream
1 c. milk
1 T. lemon zest
2/3 c. lemon juice
1/8 tsp. salt

Combine all ingredients then freeze in an ice cream freezer.

Gee, I've got fresh peaches, bing cherries, lemons and oranges. What will I try next? Bet that "a bit tart" lemon ice cream would be good on a hot day like today.

That sounds wonderful and there's no need to make and cool the custard mixture prior to freezing? The grands were here on Sunday and wanted to make ice cream. There wasn't enough time to do all of the steps before they would have had to leave. I'll pick up some SCM mix with some dark cocoa powder and give this recipe a try!

Compumom, I am a chocoholic. I used regular Hershey Cocoa and it was fantastic. Didn't get super hard, either. I'm going to try the vanilla next with some add-ins. And it only takes 20 minutes in my machine for a little less than soft serve. I'm so excited that I'll be able to make my own ice cream while we travel this winter. I have a double door fridge with a double door freezer in the RV so I'll have plenty of room for extra bowls of ice cream. I'd better make sure I take my bike so I don't wind up as big as a whale.
