It's Reunion Time :-)

Hi everyone,

There are two days left until the class reunion, and I just finished getting the last of the supplies/ingredients I needed today. Tomorrow evening, the cobblers will be baked and the lemonade all chilled and ready to serve for the next day's activities.

Sure enough, I've been doing a lot of reminiscing lately about the times back then. The odd thing is, my best friend Nicole (we all called her Nikki), passed away six years ago in a car accident tomorrow. That was the summer before senior year. She was like a sister to me and I'll always remember her and smile. I know she will be there in spirit :-).

What happened to Nikki must be especially poignant to you that the anniversary is so close to the reunion.

I am sure the reunion will be a great one with what you will be taking for everyone to enjoy.

dcarch, I am so excited for tomorrow! I will post pictures if I remember of the cobblers and lemonade later tonight and I will try and remember my camera for tomorrow.

This whole day has been nothing but fun. I spent the late morning and afternoon with my neighbor friend (the one I made the mandarin orange cake for and whom will enjoy this weekend. It's gorgeous weather (but a little on the warm side). Nikki is surely smiling down on all of us. :-)

sorry to say...but with things like burgers and brats...you will need pretty close to one of each for every adult. Yes you will have leftovers but better than having someone who wanted a brat not get one. As far as quantities of other stuff... My rule of thumb is 5 pounds of potatoes fixed any way will feed 30 people. And that rule holds fast for potato salad, mashed, scalloped fried etc etc. For the slaw....that's harder because slaw shrinks when it stands. Figure 1/2 a cup per serving...many will have more but many will take less. I figure one big head of cabbage...about twice the size of a soft ball, will serve 30. For the sausage and kraut, have 1 sausage and 1/4 cup of kraut for each person. Veggies?? Have lots...people will graze on them. Chips...a pound will feed 20....have lots, unopened chips will keep. Also if this is an afternoon long party, people will eat more over a longer period of time, but if you are meeting and people go through the buffet line then clean up the food....they won't eat as much. Freeze the strudle after cooking. You can make the potato salad the day before but I wouldn't boil the potatoes any before that....the cabbage is also a day before thing. I suppose you could shred it 2 days before...but it might brown at the edges. Nah....don't cater it....home cooking is better! Hope you have help with the prep....sounds like a great spread. Linda C

Shortness runs in my step mother's family. Vivian is one of Bernice's sisters. She was so cute, she said I made her weekend. She is a widow and lives alone so not much going on on the weekends.

Alisande, I read your article and have to admit that tears were running down my face about halfway through it. And now my throat has that stabbing pain from trying not to cry. It was such a beautiful story and you told it so well I almost feel like I was there. I hope you can go to the one coming up and write about it again. Reunions are such nostalgic events and a lot of fun, too.

But what are the odds that whoever's in charge of the PA will have the state of mind to use that code instead of saying something like "GET OUT GET OUT THERE'S A BOMB RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!!!" But to be serious, why even use the PA system to use that 12:00 code--if all the employees know what it means, they're splitting. I wouldn't count on many hourly-rate people nowadays to do their jobs--making sure all the customers get out in an orderly fashion, too.

Thank you, sleevendog! I'm so excited for tomorrow! Today was pretty neat, but tomorrow afternoon, I'm looking forward to tomorrow with great anticipation :-).

Brad, best wishes for a wonderful day. You're food looks great, I'm sure it will be appreciated. And you look so organized, how smart to have everything ready to go the night before...

We're going to reunion tomorrow too but not school, it's an annual family reunion (picnic) and not even close family - eldest was my father's cousin (both long gone) but a large fun group and we enjoy seeing them. A six hour round trip so we'll spend the night...

I hope your day is filled with good memories of Nikki, and that you enjoy yourself very much.

I like to be organized before a big day such as this. Mom helped, and she likes things organized lol. I hope your reunion is a success! We have some rain headed our way, and we need it badly, but I am looking forward to this day come rain or shine!

There wasn't a whole lot of us at the reunion today, and I have LOTS of cobbler and lemonade left, but, it won't go to waste ;-). It was a very good time seeing everyone who showed up.
