Bread - Egg Wash question

Just a quick question about proper storage of egg washed breads.

I have never egg washed.. well.. anything before and yesterday tried a new recipe for hamburger buns that called for an egg-wash of 1 egg yolk and 1 Tbl. water just before baking at 400 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes. I dutifully followed the instructions and they came out great!

My question though, is about storage. I've left them covered in a plastic zip-loc bag on the kitchen table. But then I got to thinking, since I washed them with what is essentially now scrambled eggs should I have perhaps stored them in the refrigerator? And are they still safe to eat having sit on the table for 12 hours?

Thanks in advance :)

Bradley
