Salt substitutes

I remember reading something in one of my posts that I wish somebody would explain to me. They said that some salt substitutes were just as bad as the salt because of the amount of potassium salts in them. I don't understand what that does to you. It looks like there would be some salt substitutes that would not have this in them. Just need some clarification. Also in ordering the unsmoked ham hock to flavor the meat for the pressure cooker--do you have to special order this or what? Thanks in advance. Barb
