Are these safe or should I toss them?

In my frenzy of trying to prep for the lunch gathering tomorrow and goofing off hanging with neighbors at a block party... I managed to boil the eggs and forget them on the counter (covered in the boiling water) for almost 3 hours. Can I still make deviled eggs from them in the morning or should I toss them and start over?

The water was AC room temp cold by the time I discovered them.

Of course, I appreciate any advice while I sit here feeling stupid.

I have hard boiled eggs and left them to cool for a few hours. They will be fine.

I wouldn't give it a thought....they are fine.
But I would consider that in the total time allowed for food to be unrefrigeratered....
In other words.....don't save the leftovers....and keep the completed eggs cold!
BUT....they likely won't peel easily.....
They are eggs....boiled and heated to a safe temp and un peeled....not much chance to intorduce bacteria.

Carol, I agree, farmers have a huge incidence of cancers and chronic illnesses due to all the chemicals used by our fathers and their fathers. No one knew better. I'd rather eat a bug than most of the "cides", including insecticides, pesticides, fungicides, herbicides and various other "cides". They're meant to kill things, for crying out loud, how can they be good for us? I have caved in a couple of times and sprayed for potato beetles, using Sevin, and I've sprayed the apples a couple of years for coddling moths when I couldn't figure out any other way, but for the most part I avoid the chemicals and live with the insects in a sort of uneasy kind of peace and harmony. Tomato hornworms, though? I squash those promptly, no peace and harmony there... Annie

Thanks for your reply romy6. I haven't destroyed the plants that have pods with a little black seeds and placenta inside yet. I destroyed other plants that had something more serious. I wasn't sure if I should throw out the pods with a little black inside or keep them. There will be some more ripe pods soon - I will wait to see how they turn out. Since I have other plants that are in good shape, I might just destroy the suspect plants out at the end of the season and throw away the pods.

Hi, What you did for the seeds, rinsing and drying, was absolutely fine for those types of seeds. The wilting you had/have came from events that happened after planting from bugs in the garden. It didn't have anything to do with the seeds you saved. There are some squash that are resistant to squash vine borers, but many types popular types are not resistant. About being a cross or not coming true from the seed, so much depends on what variety of plant you took the seed from. If you took the seed from a grocery store cantaloupe(it sounds like this is what you did,) the cantaloupe was probably a hybrid and though you may very well cantaloupes, they might not be exactly like the cantaloupe you took seeds from. Te seed could be crossed with another type of melon and you will get strange looking fruit if the farmer was growing other types, but some farmers just grow huge fields of cantaloupe, so you could have your fruit be regular cantaloupe. I hope that made sense, lol. The same is true for your squash. I do have to say, I've saved seeds(spaghetti squash) from a local farmer and had the squash come true. So it is possible to be successful with seed saved from stuff bought at the market. If you saved the seeds from plant you bought and grew in your garden last year, I can explain all that to you. Remy

I just threw it away. I didn't even try to smell it. Better safe than sorry does seem to apply. It was about four dollars for the chicken, but I throw leftovers away all the time so this time I just threw it away before it became leftovers! Thanks for the healthful advice! I've never frozen garbage btw! Maybe the next time I finish a carton of eggs, I 'll freeze the empty carton just to see what it feels like!

Thanks! I am going to peel and halve them in the morning and make the filling in a plastic freezer bag. All components will be carried up in a cooler (on ice) and I will fill a dozen at a time as needed. Easier than trying to transport 72 already assembled devlied eggs LOLOLOL!

Peel them tonight....I think the peel won't slip off easily and best to discover that tonight than in the AM....

I wouldn't worry either especially considering how many people make eggs for Easter and leave them out for days. (I don't eat them but a lot of people do!) A few hours isn't much different than them being served at a dinner party.

Like the others I think they are AOK and wouldn't worry a bit. I was astounded that in France they don't refrigerate eggs or milk at the grocery stores. They are on regular shelves. Same in Italy.

Thanks everyone! And except for a couple of stubborn ones, they peeled just fine. And I did leave the filling in a freezer zip bag with the empty whites layered in a tupperware bowl (with everything well chilled) and they were fine. We put out a dozen and a time and filled them as we went and they disappeared quickly! No leftovers!
