Yup, a meatball maker. I have one. Doesn't work well but it's one of those gadgets that seem to be a good idea until you use it.

I agree, it's a meatball maker. Like cynic, I don't think they work very well, but they seem like they should have been a good idea.

It might help make the meatballs a uniform size, but that's about the only thing it does well. The one Amanda has makes a meatball but it never comes out and by the time you scrape the meat mixture out of the thing, you still have to form it by hand.

Yup, meatballer. I no longer have one because I had to admit it wasn't effective as such. I used it a couple of times to "tweak" Beau's nose before pitching it.

Thanks everyone... I played with it tonight while I was making something else and tested to see what it would be like to form a meatball... Extremely uneven shape and the meat shoots out the holes, what doesn't shoot out sticks to the device. Oh well, maybe I can use it to scoop mashed potatoes. Glad it was only fifty cents :o)

I read a review where someone said she used it to make cake pops, but I can't imagine how that would work because cake batter is so thin.

Yep I asked for one for Christmas once. Used it once. 50 cents, you got away cheap.

vacuumfreak - cake pops are made with baked cake and icing mixed together, thus your new gadget COULD be used to form pops.

But if it doesn't work well for meatballs, I'm not sure how it would work well for cake pops

My mother has one. Never used, but i tried once. Even used saran wrap to help get the suckers out. My meatballs are too moist and sticky. (i roll in panko before baking). Might work for Italian rice balls. Na, too sticky.
I did make round PB&J's using that white bunny bread for my niece and nephew. That was dumb, haha.

Never used one but I think it might help to dip it in ice water before forming each meatball. This way, the meat won't stick. I think the intent is to grab a portion of meat with the tool and then lightly form in your hand. Don't try to pack it in or scoop a bunch with it.

The problem I had was if it came out the hole, that held it in. Maybe if you dunked it in hot bacon fat each time and was careful not to take too much of the burger in there, it could work, and make a tasty meatball too. :D

I just find it easier to make a log of meat, cut into pieces and give a quick roll. I never was able to make really round meatballs anyway. Maybe if I baked them, but I haven't tried that yet. I just say heck with it and make a burger or something. In a meatball stew I just toss blobs of browned burger (well, meatloaf mixture) in there.

Mini snowballs? Hmmm. Maybe... or a scoop of Maitre 'd Butter. But why? LOL

I didn't experiment with it much. Maybe if you chill the meat real well then dunked the tool into hot water it might release better. IDK. My question is why don't I just toss the thing? I must think it can be used for something, or I don't want to admit I got suckered into buying it...
