Yes - there was an identical situation the other day wih toaster ovens. The link takes you to a site like toasterovenreviews.org (or ricecookerreviews.org) which then links to amazon. I guess we just have to get used to this sort of thing and learn to ignore it.

Arley, rather than starting a post to announce your diligent forum policing, why not inform Garden Web so the posts can be deleted?

Ruthanna - that's what I do when I am certain it is spam. I copy the link to the thread and put it in an email to GW with a subject line of "possible spammer."

I have found that when I have done that the spam thread will disappear in minutes.

I did not open that thread because a rice cooker is not an appliance I would use - although I do eat a lot of rice.

arley, I agree, and it is against the rules. I remember clear back when Renee was banned jut for mentioning that she owned a coffee shop and sold coffee beans on line. Although several of us bought wonderful coffee her husband roasted, she wasn't linking to a website or advertising, it was just a part of her life.

Now we get links and spam and chat bots. Ugh.

Using the forums to advertise is against the rules, of course, so I also report any SPAM threads I get sucked into.

When you report spam, give the URL of the thread plus the name of the spammer and the URL to the member page as well.

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Contact Us. Paste the link (URL) into the body of the email and note that it is possibly spam.

At the end, it is how many clicks and member they can show advertisers.

But the cheapens the product. People come here to trust the user-generated content. If they click on a link that someone provides, it helps that it isn't a bogus link from Whoknowswhereistan asking for your personal information or infecting your computer.

So it pays to keep the site clean.
