How adorable!! Madi looks like she's a chip off of your block, not Amanda's! Actually Great Guacamole was my mother's seasoning of choice too. I think it's rather tasty!

You know, I don't know what they'll be like when they get older. Both of my girls have been cooking with me since they were small enough to sit on the counter in their footie pajamas, but neither really like to cook now. Amanda does cook more than Ashley does.

Makayla and Madison both love to cook with me, but will they still love to cook when they are teenagers, or young adults? Who knows?

It was fun anyway, and we ate all the guacamole, while Madi ate tortilla chips. They weren't green, LOL.

Oh, how fun! I'm told I planted our avocado trees when I was Madi's age. Just took pits and stuck them in the ground, and my mother decided to let them grow. :)

Given your other thread, however, I expected there to be bacon in the guacamole!

I think traits sometimes skip a generation, and so maybe the grandkids will continue to enjoy cooking. I learned mostly from my grandmothers as well.

plllog, I've tried putting the toothpicks into avocado pits and suspending them in glasses of water and all I ever come up with is rotten avocado pits. Not that I could plant them outside here in Michigan anyway, LOL. Too bad, I've learned to love avocado, I used to dislike them intensely.

Lars, I sure hope you are right, because it's fun to have someone to cook with. Even Bud likes playing with the food processor, "it's like equipment, for the kitchen!"

dcarch, my house IS kind of like a reality show, sometimes. Only it's real. (grin)

Madonna, we do have a good time cooking together, but my grandkids are living proof that all those people who say a kid will eat something they made themselves are just wrong. Madi won't eat "green stuff" and doesn't really like meat, not even chicken nuggets or cheeseburgers, Makayla doesn't want any sauces or dips on anything, she even eats sandwiches on dry bread, no mustard or mayo, Bud will try most things but is definitely a meat eater and Maci, well, she eats everything she can get in her mouth. 4 kids, 4 different eating styles and none of them will eat guacamole, even if they make it themselves!

Annie, there's hope! Maybe not for growing avocados in Michigan, but you have sour cherries. :) (My father is from Michigan and still misses the sour cherries.) But you didn't used to like avocados, so maybe Madi will when she gets older. :) Here in the Wild West we have serious trouble with avocado rustlers. Maybe a story about how people stand guard over the trees to keep the bad guys from getting away with the green treasure will prompt her to at least taste it? :)

I hated avocado until I became a teenager/young adult. Guacamole is what did me in. Now I like them in all kinds of salads and I love them in scrambled eggs. I still can't get my brain around the desserts and soups with them though. I might taste one someone else has made but I'm not making it myself, waste of avocado that would be.

Ah, plllog, you are right, we do have sour cherries and sweet cherries too. And wild caught salmon and lake perch directly from Lake Michigan.

I'd still like to grow avocados and figs, though, and a Meyer lemon, LOL. I just want a little bit more than I'm ever going to get....

Ok, that story might suck in Bud, though, about how valuable they are that people rustle them and need to have armed guards. Yeah, that would be a story an 8 year old boy could get behind!

L, I like them spread on toast, with just salt and pepper, but I've never had the nerve to put them into baked goods or "shakes" or whatever. I keep thinking I could sneak some into a fruit smoothie and trick the grandkids, but I can't figure out how to hide the fact that it's green. Peppermint, maybe, like the Shamrock Shakes at McD's!
