I've been holding out on you.

Last Thursday I took the train into San Francisco and met our very own ArabellaMiller (Ilisa) and her husband Jason. We walked to SFMOMA and took in two of the four floors. The place is huge. We had a lunch at a soup and sammy place close to SFMOMA. Sorry, no food pics. We were too busy talking! Ilisa and Jason are wonderful. Ilisa and I explored the foodie booths at the Ferry Building close to their hotel before we parted. The cheese booth/store looked amazing. I think they went back for a more thorough examination.

I have no other photos but we are all in this image Ilisa took at SFMOMA of an installation with a video camera. We ARE art. :)

Thank you, Ilisa, for sharing this fun image and a wonderful day with me. Thank you, Jason, for sharing your wisdom.

Eileen

What, no food porn? Love your picture. Glad you guys had fun not drinking Patron in San Francisco.

No food porn. But below is the link to the place where we ate.

Yes, Helene, that's the cheese place! Cheese heaven. The Ferry Building is a wonderful foodie's place to wander. I noticed that The Slanted Door is now there. I last ate there many years ago at the original location. Ilisa said they had plans to dine there. I'd love to hear how they liked it.

I enjoyed the Ferry Building the last time I was in SF (and I'm due for another trip this year), but I felt that The Slanted Door was a bit overrated - there are better Vietnamese restaurants on Clement Street. TSD is more nouvelle Vietnamese, which I also like, but it comes at a higher price. I think it was probably better at its previous location. I very much liked the selection of mushrooms I found at the Ferry Bldg.

SF is my favorite restaurant city (New Orleans is second), and Eileen and I went to a couple of restaurants there, as I remember. There are also many great cheese shops, and that is one thing I wish we had here. There is a good one in Beverly Hills, but there should be more!

I can see Ilisa trying to hide behind the IX! I don't think I'd seen a picture of Jason before, but somehow I expected him to be tall. I hope I get to meet them at some point as well.

Thanks for sharing, especially the picture. I used to live close to SFMOMA when it was in the Civic Center and went there often - or was that a different museum? I especially liked their Matisse collection.

The Slanted Door is definitely nouvelle Vietnamese. Not traditional. It was very good the time I ate there long ago. At the time it was just getting a lot of notice as the new great thing.

Jason is tall! Ilisa has an inch and change on me. :)

Lars, when you are in SF again, let me know. It's an easy Amtrak ride for me into the city. (I wish I knew the Muni system, too.) A day trip is limited, though. The first train in arrives at 11:20. The last train out leaves at 5:15.

Eileen.

What a terrific day! Eileen is just as funny, sweet, fascinating, and lovely as you would imagine. I've been hoping to meet her in person after she did a HUGE graphic design favor for me last year. She is truly a gifted artist and I'm glad I got to explore a museum with her and hear her opinions.
The Slaned Door was very good. Spectacular views, a nice cocktail menu and great food, authentic or not. Excellent meals were also had at Bar Jules and Boulevard.
We had an overall fantastic trip, but meeting Eileen was certainly a highlight.
I have a few months left until I am done with school and things hopefully settle down. I am looking forward to jumping back in to the CF then!

OK Now I have to get back up to SF. Lars is right, LA doesn't have enough 'cheese shops'. I get my fix at Whole Paycheck...got a Humbolt Fog in there right now.

Great that you got together, and I LOVE that picture!

Boulevard? You got into Boulevard?

What a great trip you've had! Culinarily speaking, of course!
