Does your Springform pan leak?

Posted by loves2cook4six (My Page) on

I just bought the Kaiser La Form 9x13" rectangle springform pan. I justified this truely EXPENSIVE pan because I hate getting bars and other things out of regular pans and it had rave reviews on amazon.

On unpacking the box, I noticed that the edge did not fit the base precisely. So I got out my trusty 10" glass bottom FISKO pan and poured a cup of water in. It leaked but very slowly. Tried the same thing in the kaiser and it poured out.

OK, just water, I thought, let me try baking in it.

So 20 minutes ago I popped a pan of Ann's Retro/magic bars in the oven and now I see some of it has leaked out onto the rim.

Is this normal or should I return it for a replacement? If the replacement does the same thing, it will be money back for sure.

Did you buy it on Amazon ??? Did it happen to come from Ace Hardware ???

I have bought a few items that were shipped from Ace hardware.
You can call the manufacturer direct and ask them.

RE: Does your Springform pan leak?

A leaking springform pan is not "normal".
Call amazon and tell them you will be sending it back and to please send you a return voucher.

RE: Does your Springform pan leak?

Wasnt there some trick posted about this not long ago? Like turning the bottom part upside down?

LOU? Do you remember what I'm talking about??

 o
RE: Does your Springform pan leak?

I remember that too Shaun. I think it does help to turn the bottom upside down.

I always wrap the bottom in foil as a "just in case" preventative method.

RE: Does your Springform pan leak?

Thanks guys. This was NOT a cheap pan and you can't flip the bottom. In fact you can cut on it and serve direct from the base.

Everything that leaked collected in the base and it sure doesn't look pretty enough to serve out of. Nothing leaked into the oven. Wrapping in foil would not have prevented the leaks.

I've contacted Amazon, they will be sending a replacement.

And BTW, how do you run a knife around the edge without scratching the pan?

 o
RE: Does your Springform pan leak?

I use a plastic knife.

 o
RE: Does your Springform pan leak?

Shaun: That was for the other type Pans.

Loves2: Type is not recessed." Eta Luuks A Lika, anna waze"

I said to contact the Manufacturer, because at times ,they don't want you to send the Original back.

Hope the new one is OK.

I don't know about cutting on the Pan. Be careful!
Test on the Bottom.
Plastic Knife sounds good !!! Or Parchment Paper ???

RE: Does your Springform pan leak?

I have recipes from trusty sources that say to always line your pan with foil in case of leaks, so they must be common. My pan is also a good one, and it usually leaks. I just always wrap the bottom in foil as a matter of precaution.

RE: Does your Springform pan leak?

Thanks for the advice. I did call the company and they want the pan back. I think I may just send them the dirty pan so they can see how badly it leaked along with the recipe I used.

They promised to look at it, assured me that it did not sound normal, and will replace it if it is, indeed, defective. If not they will return it to me and I will send it back to Amazon- either way I won't be out the money.

But honestly as embarrassed as I am to admit I spent $50 on a springform pan, I truly did expect better performance than this. And I figured if I use it every time I need a 9x13" pan it will get more than it's fair share of use - BUT NOT IF IT LEAKS LOL

RE: Does your Springform pan leak?

Sheshebop:
Do you wrap the outside. We talked about this a few weeks ago.
Think I said to wrap the outside so any Butter etc., won't leak out into the oven.

But if she wraps the outside, it will still go into the
outside edge of Bottom Pan, and leave a mess.
It's like a Moat around a Castle.

We will have to wait and see if the new one leaks.

What the H3ll am I talking about ? This one is new.
I would contact the Manufacturers Customers Service, also
and inquire about the leaks.
Lou

 o
RE: Does your Springform pan leak?

Lou, Yes I wrap the outside in foil. Keeps the oven clean.

 o
RE: Does your Springform pan leak?

Wow, that makes me appreciate my cheap round ones. You know, the set that comes in three... I have them for years and they never give me griefs. I hope the company will replace it for you. Do you have to pay shipping to send them back?

 o
RE: Does your Springform pan leak?

Good evening;
I am new to this site so bear w/ me. As far as a leaking spring form pan, if they give you any grief about returning it or whatever, and you happen to like it a lot, do what IO do. I make home style cheese cakes constantly and have a couple of pans that leak slightly, but, I will and CAN'T part w/ them. What I do is put a piece of Parchment paper over the bottom, lock the top in place and trim the excess paper. Every thing bakes beautiful and zero leaks. Hope this helped. Being Italian,I do a lot of cooking, but no one to cook for (ha ha ha ha). If you like Canolli's and or Pignoli cookies, I have a great recipe from the Bronx. Feel free to email me at ....tonti543@hotmail.com Nice to meet all of you. Tony

RE: Does your Springform pan leak?

Tony: Or should I say " Hey Antney " Welcome to the CF.

We needed another guy on the CF and " Italian " besides. You women are in BIG trouble.
We can now come at you in Stereo. lol

Tony: The Women are great on the CF and so are the Guys,
( not too many of them )

I don't know much about cooking . I hope you know more than me.
Tanto Grazie !

RE: Does your Springform pan leak?

Hi Lou;
Nice to meet you as well. I'm from Long Island, originally from the good OLE BRONX, when it was nice, lol. Yes, I am a good cook. I do catering on the side. My other line is being a contractor.I do home maintenance, painting, power washing, sheet rocking, etc etc etc. BUT, my love is cooking. I usually look at a recipe that hits me, and then make it my way. As of date, 99.5% of the times it comes out better than the original. I also go to good restaurants, and order something I never had, and go home and make it my way as well. lol. Hope to share some of my recipes with all. PS... I make a to die for cheese cake, pignoli cookies, and Cannoli's. (the Cannoli's come from a recipe I happened to come upon, and it's circa the 50's Arthur Ave Cannoli's). A little time consuming, BUT OMG, WELL WORTH IT.Talk soon, Tony

RE: Does your Springform pan leak?

Hey Tony : You sound like me. Maybe we are related ?
That was a good tip about the Parchment Paper to stop leaks.
I mentioned the PP in one thread but if she can exchange it and the new one don't leak, that's better.

I had a Post on Cooking Tips. Think there were about 75 responses.
That would have been a good Tip.

I'm surprised no one came in to welcome you to the CF.

There is not much activity on the Forum right now( excuse )

I'm not from NY. Originally from Philly, now in the Pocono's, Pa.but we talk the same.

I wish you were in here a day earlier, because I was talking to someone and
couldn't remember Arthur Ave.Where all the Markets and Shops are.
There was a Movie made there in a Pastry Shop.
The guy and woman entered a Pastry Competition.
Maybe you saw it.

I have to put something in the " What's For Dinner " Post.
Talk to You Later, Lou.

RE: Does your Springform pan leak?

I'm sorry. I have absolutely nothing worthy to contribute here. I just wanted to let you know that everytime I've seen this posting, I begin to sing "Do your ears hang low". It's killing me!
Nancy

 o
RE: Does your Springform pan leak?

Nancy :
Could you elaborate ! I don't know what you meant?

Lou

 o
RE: Does your Springform pan leak?

LOL, Lou! It's a kids' song, and I can't stop singing it since I originally saw this post.
xx

 o
lyrics in case you don't want to click the link

Do your ears hang low?
Do they wobble to and fro?
Can you tie them in a knot?
Can you tie them in a bow?
Can you throw them over your shoulder?
Like a continental soldier?
Do your ears hang low?

Do your ears flip flop?
Can you use them for a mop?
Are they stringy at the bottom?
Are they curly at the top?
Can you use them for a swatter?
Can you use them for a blotter?
Do your ears flip flop?

Do your ears hang high?
Do they reach up to the sky?
Do they droop when they're wet
Do they stiffen when they're dry?
Can you semaphore your neighbor
With a minimum of labor?
Do your ears hang high?

Do your ears hang wide?
Do they flap from side to side?
Do they wave in the breeze
With the slightest little sneeze?
Can you soar above the nation?
With a feeling of elation?
Do your ears hang wide?

Do your ears fall off?
Does it happen when you cough?
Do they lie there on the ground?
Or bounce around at every sound?
Can you stick them in your pocket
Like a little Davey Crockett?
Do your ears fall off?

RE: Does your Springform pan leak?

OK !!! Never heard this version. Heard it with different words.
And sort of a Russian Theme.

What does it have to do with the Post ???

Screwy Louie

 o
RE: Does your Springform pan leak?

I keep wanting to sing:
Does your springform pan leak
does it wobble to and fro...

Whatever, just feeling silly :)

 o
RE: Does your Springform pan leak?

OMG!! You guys are so funny. Sorry I was gone so long but as I am sure you all know - stuff happens.

I sent the Springform pan back to Kaiser for a warranty replacement and hopefully they will agree the pan is faulty. I can't believe I did this but I actually sent it back with the burnt on leak still on the pan so they could see it leaked all around.

And yes, I had to pay the shipping back to them.

Mamato4 -

yes, my springform pan does leak
and it wobbles to and fro...
I can tie it up with string
I can put it in the sink
but the pan - it still does leak!!

Oh, I am PATHETIC! Now you all know why I needed help with that briday shower rhyme.

Tony - welcome. And please do share your recipes.

Love2 : Who won the Gold , for the Poem ?

You should have asked them to email you a Shipping Form.
If it is defective ,it's their fault.
Do you want me to talk to them ?
I'll go there and give them 5 across the lips.

Mama Mia:
You had better stop sipping on the leaky Springform Pans !
Lou

 o
RE: Does your Springform pan leak?

Thanks lou. You all got a gold for the poems - I used them all.

I did ask for a Postage label and they refused. Yup, refused. So if you want to go there and give them 5 across I'm all for it. Are you in NC? I just want my pan back and working as it should be. I love the concept.

 o
RE: Does your Springform pan leak?

I do not use springform pans, but I have seen recipes that require using a pan within a pan (like the recipe below).

I hope shipping wasn't expensive - perhaps you can get a replacement shipped to you for free. Good luck!
