RECIPE: New High Fiber Diet
Comments (7)I have not read about this particular diet, but I'm trying to get more fiber in my diet to help with diverticulosis. Here is some information I have found: ~ making your own whole grain or multi-grain bread is a good idea; just watch how much plain (white) all-purpose flour is in the recipe as that is not the way to get whole grains; add unprocessed wheat bran and wheat germ to bread recipes ~ add more barley, oatmeal, and brown rice to your eating habits; I cook up both barley and brown rice in 2 cup (uncooked) portions then freeze the extra in 1 cup (cooked) portions for later use ~ eat 3-5 servings of fruit and veggies every day, with as many of them eaten raw as you can ~ add cooked dried beans (mashed) to meatloaf, meatballs, casserole, meat sauce, chili, taco meat; or you can add 1 TB unprocessed wheat bran to these recipes as you are making them ~ for snacks, eat fresh fruit (not fruit juice), pretzels, baked tortilla chips with bean dip, fresh veggie sticks with an herbed yogurt dip. Brown rice might take some getting used to, but the more you eat it the better it tastes! A Mexican pizza could be made with a flour tortilla, topped with seasoned mashed pintos or refried beans, some taco seasoned ground beef if you want, cheese - then top with shredded lettuce, diced onion, tomato, olives, peppers, jalapenos, any topping you like on a taco. You could drizzle some taco sauce or salsa over all if you like a spicy sauce....See MoreNeed low sodium/low carb diet for dog with seizures please ?
Comments (19)"his dog treats (which is chicken jerky/dehydrated chicken breasts) are all loaded with sodium" Tammy, I lost two dogs to kidney failure within about a year of each other and I highly suspect the jerky treats I was giving them was a big part of it. I discovered later they were very high in salt. I switched to other pet treats but (and this might sound a bit gross) I always licked them to make sure they didn't taste salty. Well it was just hard to get good quality treats without salt. So I decided to try and make my own, and I bought a food dehydrator. The only thing that goes into my dogs' treats is lean meat, no flavoring, no salt, nothing so I don't need to worry about it anymore. It's actually pretty easy. I get the butcher to slice up meat nice and thin then I cut it into smaller strips and put it into the multilevel dehydrator, switch it on until they are done. I keep a bag in the fridge (not even sure if it's necessary) and put other bags into the freezer to take out when the fridge bag runs out. My dogs love them, no added flavors or salt needed....See MoreLow-cal diet is causing personality changes
Comments (72)Well, I'm offended for her. I wish her vet would have diagnosed the thyroid before she was put through a diet when it was no fault of her own or her own lack of portion control ;0) Are there doggie endos? Poor girl. Bet she feels much better with the meds soon and will drop those pounds by beach weather. (not to mention her knees and hips are probably calling out 'thank you' already)...See MoreWill I Starve? Comments (25)More great help and support! I thank you. My DH thanks you. I've added some pudding cups and turkey breast to the fridge. I'll be eating 'light' tonight and start The Great Purge at noon tomorrow. The hospital will call me tomorrow afternoon to set the exact time for the OR. (Right now it's 8:47 am.) This is the same surgeon who removed a benign diverticulum in 2012 --and my appendix, since he was 'there anyway'. That was outpatient. He's the 'go to guy' for GI surgery in my area. It still amazes me that any of this can even be done! I'm hoping for entirely 'small incision' or with only one larger one to remove the section of colon with the 'carpeting'. (Do surgeons learn 'folding'?) I want to be an uninteresting case -- with a benign biopsy and no complications....See Morechas045
