7 day cooked Quinoa safe to eat?

I made a chili last friday and one of the ingredients was cooked quinoa. I was thinking of doubling the recipe so I doubled the quinoa and then of course it was too much so I had some leftover and planned to make a quinoa tabouli (sp?) later this week. Well it was a very bad week and I never had time to do so and the quinoa is still sitting in my fridge. Is it safe to eat? I did a search and am getting different answers.

Well, I would . . . As long as it doesn't smell or taste off, if it is pasty that's a bad sign.

It depends on how cold is you refrigerator, how much salt you used, and what else is in it.

If it is just quinoa, what is the worst thing it can turn into, wine?

An allergy is actually one's body attacking itself. If weakened immune systems make some people suscepible to pathogens, such as those some yack about in cat poop, I take it you have never had a serious allergy attack and what that does to ones system. I spent two days sitting in a chair due to a doctor giving me a medicine I was allergic to after the doctor who gave me the medicine said if my headache, no one ever found out what caused it, did not go away within three days he was going to send me for a brain scan. The headache went away, I recovered from looking like the poppin fresh dough boy. Some allergins make you simply puff up and it is very hard to go up and down stairs and breathe. Later, same year, I spent forty days in the hospital as the specialist said "we will send you home when we find the bug that is killing you." Are they related not likely. Had they happened at the same time, as the doctor who cut me open was amazed I was able to walk into the hospital, had the allergies happened later only God knows how that would have turned out. So if one is not allergic to much of anything, any poop related pathogens will probaly just give the one the runs and a few headaches but if the one has allergies, the one becomes far, far more susceptible to a pathogen attacking the one's immunes system as it may be compromised from the body already attacking itself. I never had the test and learned and recovered the hard ways. Get the test and one will know a lot more about how well his immune system is working.

Well after doing some research on Speed Ovens, and Nutrition, I was forced to backoff and study just microwaving and Nutrition. Apparently speed ovens have not been out that long, or popular enough to encourage writing much about them, (so far). Butttt---Since a speed oven is just a combination of Microwaving and heating, (either with a conventional heating element or a convection fan heater)Almost everything I read is positive, Here's just one example: "Science tells us that cooking food in the microwave does not reduce the vitamin content at all. In fact, recent laboratory studies suggest that vegetables cooked in the microwave actually retain more nutritious vitamins and minerals than vegetables cooked in other, more traditional ways." So just goggle Microwave Nutrition to see for yourself! Add to that the time and the power you save, I mean, really, heat up a big oven and bake just 2 taters taking about an hour, when A speed oven will do it in 15 minutes or less? Gary

My daughters spent part of their childhood here in Spain where it was often customary to give the children a few drops of wine in a glass when it was being poured for the adults at the table. But it was diluted for them with a good squirt of the ever-present mesh-covered squirt bottle of carbonated water that graced most tables during that time. It was used for diluting drinks or drinking straight and was useful for moistening a napkin to mop off any food spills on your clothing while you dined LOL. If you see old photos of Europeans dining in restaurants or even at home pre-1970s you will often see the familiar mesh-covered sifon bottle on the table. I always had one on my dinner table. We would take the empty bottles back to the corner store and for a peseta or two (think cents) get a full bottle in return. (Now does that make me sound old!) This is one way I have made salmon and it was good. I'm accustomed to cooking with wine and wouldn't worry about serving this to children...but you could just give a small amount of the sauce if you were concerned. Here's how it looked when I made it: - Makes 4 servings. 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon dry mustard 1 teaspoon dried thyme 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper 4 (6-ounce) salmon steaks or fillets 2 teaspoons honey 3 teaspoons olive oil, divided 8 cups spinach leaves 1/2 teaspoon minced peeled garlic 2 cups red seedless grapes, halved 1/2 cup dry red wine Combine salt, mustard, thyme and pepper; mix well. Rub salmon fillets with honey and sprinkle with half the seasoning mixture. Heat 2 teaspoons of olive oil in a nonstick skillet. brown both sides of salmon fillets. Toss spinach and garlic with remaining 1 teaspoon oil in a 13x9x2-inch baking dish. Place salmon on spinach, cover loosely with aluminum foil and bake at 300Â°F for 10 minutes. SautÃ© grapes in skillet used to brown salmon. Add wine bring to a boil, season to taste with remaining seasoning mixture; reduce by half. Serve salmon on spinach; top with grape sauce. I also agree that 145F is way overcooked for nearly any beef I might consume. Commercially obtained ground beef is my exception to that, I just don't trust the stuff and I eat it well done when I have to consume it, like in a restaurant. The chances of trichinosis from raw pork is minute. There were about 400 cases in the US last year, most from rural areas which grow and slaughter their own pork. The problem came from the producers feeding pigs raw meat scraps, something which is now forbidden by government regulations for commercial operations, although I'm not sure that's enforced very stringently. Anyway, if there are 327 million people in the United States, the chance of getting trichinosis from undercooked pork is about one in 817,000, if my math is correct. Annie

Personally, I would toss it, but would consider it borderline safe if:

-The refrigerator temperature has been colder than 39-degrees F.

-Not a lot of opening and closing the refrigerator (which raises the temperature each time).

-It doesn't smell sweet(ish) or fermented, or has mold growing on it,

-It hasn't been in-and-out of the refrigerator - moving from a safe cold temperature to room temperature several times during the week. As an example, families who take milk out of the refrigerator and let it sit for a prolonged time at room temperature before placing it back in the refrigerator may find their milk sours faster than someone who uses what they need and immediately places it back in the refrigerator and maintains the colder than 40-degrees F food safe temperature. The longer it sits at an unsafe room temperature, the faster bacteria grows.

-I would also suggest it be thoroughly cooked if you decide to use it, and not used for a cold salad type dish.

There are so many spelling variations for "tabouli", they all look misspelled to me no matter which one I use ;-).

Tabbouli, Tabbouleh, Taboula, Tabouleh, Tabouli, TabboulÃÂ© or TaboulÃÂ© (and probably others)

Thanks for the replies I decided to toss it because I again did not have time to use it today and figure I'd rather not risk getting myself or Dh sick to save a dollar in quinoa. Dh's father past away last Friday night and it was quite a rough week. Today we had to meet the priest at the grave site for a prayer and ritual of eating koliva (wheat berries mixed with raisins walnuts and parsley) and tossing some of it on the grave.

Sorry about your stressful week and loss.
I'm glad you tossed it. Sometimes emotional stresses can weaken your defenses and leave an opening for digestive turmoil. A normal healthy week and all might pass fine but i have a 3 day limit, DH will take that to 4days. My pups have no limit.
I treat any cooked grains just like any other leftovers. Cool quickly and into the fridge. Freeze what i don't think i will be used within a couple days. After 24hrs i like to bring any leftover back up to a hot temp before using.

A forum exists somewhere for chefs and caterers that help each other through some trying recipes dealing with large quantity. Pretty interesting and difficult getting all the elements prepped and safely. One company does prepared meals for the elderly and has in-house testing. They have witnessed a change in cooked grain after 36hrs even quickly cooled and kept very cold. So they limit the use to 24hrs for safety reasons.

Our systems are designed to easily deal with day to day toxins/bugs/environmental crud.
Best to not intentionally add more stress to that process.
