Ta-daaah! Pizzelle !

Thanks for all who helped with suggestions about cleaning my old pizzelle maker--the sharpened chop stick and a wire "toothbrush" did the trick!

I made my second batch today--what they lack in symmetry etc., they make up for in taste, as I used fresh lemon juice and lemon zest in the recipe.

Here they are, "Pizzelle Imperfecta."

You're making me want to dig out the krumkake iron....same thing....different pattern!! LOL!

The only thing imperfect about those Pizzelles is that they are not by my front door in a gift box. :-)

Thanks for the input and the tips!!! I ended up making half a recipe. I didn't have any cream (thought SURE I still had a bit), so I used milk. The butter was not quite *actively* bubbling, but it was sure close to it, and VERY hot! This sauce came out wonderful!!!! Added a pinch of cayenne to this, too, but will have to add the Coleman's when DH isn't looking. Thanks for the quick responses! Smiles, Sooz

Yes terrapots. My own stupidity was causing all sorts of problems. First time, I didnt let the dough sit long enough. I only let it sit out for 40 mins, not the 1 1/2 hrs. PLUS I didnt use enough yeast in the recipe. Then my baking stone broke. Second time, I put the loaves into the oven and forgot to slash them so I took them out of the oven after they had been in there for several minutes and floured and slashed them, ripping the tops. I also didnt use cornmeal, used flour and the loaves stuck to the peel and the stone and when I finally got the bread off the stone, the bottoms remained on the stone. The third time was a charm. I mixed up fresh dough using the correct amount of yeast, I let the bread dough sit for the correct time. I remembered to flour/slash the tops and I used cornmeal. Wa-La. Victory was sweet.

You buy two curtain rods of the appropriate lengths (you will probably need to piece together that 110" with extenders) and a hinged corner connector. That's just an example, there are a gazillion out there. Ta-daaah, one L-shaped rod. Works for bay windows, too, you just need the appropriate number of rods and connectors. It's like Tinkertoys!

Restaurant supply. You should be able to have them order you a round (or square) tool that will cut the shapes. Basically, it functions like a big stainless cookie cutter. I'm not going to rain on your parade, but give a thought to the problems of home-making a food product for resale without certification for health dept and liability insurance, especially in CA. Should anyone decide to point a finger at your product as cause for a food-bourne illness -- whether they have just cause or NOT -- the liability is both on the cafe owner AND you...but mostly on you. And then the burden of proof that everything was handled correctly will be moot because of lack of certifications and inspections, but the impetus will fall back to you as the manufacturer. Double ditto what Joe's pointed out about factoring ALL associated costs.

Ann, I have a bumper crop of lemons but had no "traditional" anise extract or flavoring, so lemon is what I used and they came out yummy!

I agree, the lemon sounds delicious. I do like the anise flavor too, but a little goes a long way, I can only eat a couple of the anise flavored ones, but I could eat a whole stack of lemon ones, I'll bet.

Wow! They look gorgeous. So light and lemony. I love lemon.

If you've never sent anything to Canada before I would dearly love to be your first guinea pig. I'll let you know how they arrived so that you feel safe in knowing that anything else you want to ship outside of the US would be safe and sound.

I just want to help; you never know; between the US and Canadian Postal services and customs......things may not arrive like they should.....

Thanks for all the compliments! I brought some over to our vet's office this morning (they love when I bring surprise food!!!) and the cookies were gone lickety-split!

Jasdip, I have sent items to Canada before, so no luck on being a guinea pig. All I have to say is this: what an interesting postal system you have!
